I've been that stand by friend and NEVER taken over the date and shut someone out of conversation if things weren't going well. IF things are not going well the date, my friend usually just needs a standby person as a witness off to the side and an easy way to leave if they don't feel safe signaled via text. That friend was just rude and the date was being too nice and never asked her to leave. Edit: can't grammar today

Wanted to share some perspective if her friend was rude to you perhaps in that 3 year friendship your date hasn't spent a lot of time standing up to her so the thought didn't cross her mind. Your date might be more of a people pleaser and these folks ususally avoid confrontation at all costs to try and keep everyone happy. edit: grammar

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
