9	The claim is not "women have a magical misogyny detector." The claim is "misogynistic men who have trouble getting dates are often bad at hiding their misogyny." Not discounting your experience but mine (same era) was different. The truly popular guys were pretty low-key, precisely because "we", the girls (and the guys, too) were already impressed, so they had little to prove. It was truly just that handful of guys on the periphery who craved popularity at any cost. They were awkward and unreasonably angry.
