I wonder when that took place. Just now female teachers are being prosecuted for activity with both male and female students. For years that absolutely was NOT the case (though the woman's reputation was hit: In Streetcar Named Desire Blanche was run out of Laurel, Mississippi because she slept with a male student)

Oh, you're referring to the actual offenses. I can see how "emotions overpowering logic" works if he just happens to get into a tryst with someone he knew and then starts regretting it. In his case though he deliberately planned on having underage prostitutes: Responding to a Craigslist ad, sending text messages deliberately asking for minors, etc.

He is in his late 30s. He is not being convicted under a state age of consent law. He's being convicted under a federal law that bans commercial sex with anyone under 18. If there was no money involved and he never crossed state lines the law wouldn't apply to him.

I wouldn't even say it's about getting money. It's about protecting her assets from all the lawsuits that will whittle down Jared's money. That's why Romeo and Juliet laws exist. In some US states a 15-year old can legally consent but only to those close in age. The last US state to have an age of consent at 14 was Hawaii: it changed to 16 a decade ago but has a Romeo and Juliet law to cover 14 year olds. Canada also upped it from 14 to 16.
