I’m not here to give recipes. Everyone’s situation is different and so are the potential solutions. If you don’t want your relationship to suffer, you have to find one that works.

Instead of looking at it as a chore and asking how to best deal with it, set your mind to the question „how do I not let it be a chore?“. Too many times I read this „I am not in the mood“ thing, and most of the time, this is where it ends. Oh well, nothing can be done, it is what it is! No! This is the time to inquire what dynamics in your relationship are causing you to not be in the mood! (Not talking about one-situations, clearly) If it is stress, identify the source and work on it. If it is …

Problem is, this stuff is subconscious. You overestimate the power of the conscious mind. A lot.

Why didn’t you call one of your girl friends and had a chat while doing the chores?

Look, if your spider senses are acting up then you have subconsciously picked up on something. Don’t dismiss it. Those feelings are evolved warning signs. Especially if in the past your judgment was eventually correct then don’t ignore this.

Men without integrity cheat. Good men will communicate if they are not satisfied in their relationship.

You did nothing wrong, your husband acted a bit immature. Give him time to reflect, then repeat the process and tell him how it made you feel that he tried to gaslight you. If he can learn and grow from this process things will get easier. If not then you have picked the wrong husband.

Warning: this is going to be tough love. With either of your income it is borderline offensive to complain. You need to grow up, pick a path and move forward. Obviously you are not living within your means, otherwise your would not feel constantly stressed. Downsizing so you can comfortably live on a professor salary should not be very hard. You just got used to luxuries you cannot sustainably afford. Ween off, stop whining, and most importantly, don’t shame your husband for making less money th…

Read the book “Atomic Habits”. You have to stop thinking of yourself as a messy person. Whatever you have as a mental model of yourself, your mind will work towards that to resolve cognitive dissonance. The book will teach you how to reprogram your mind step by step so that you are not overwhelmed in the process. All you need is the willpower to go the first step and then keep going. Good luck!

He is the crazy one. He has so much more to lose. They said, pump the brakes for your own sakes. This is not healthy.

Remember that the opposite of crazy is still crazy. Happy relationships are not at the extremes.

There still may be a marked difference between what I want and what I want with you.

Well that is precisely the illusion of control I am referring to. People can very well be looking for a LTR but that does not mean they can or should commit before they had sex with a prospective partner. What you are calling commitment is commonly called intent.

Commitment requires knowledge of what one is committing to. So how is that part going to work? It is an illusion at best. Sex is part of getting to know someone well enough to even know if you want to give your commitment. With or without sex, it can last or it won’t. It depends on many factors.

To bottom line this: Do you want to live with a habitual lier and deceiver? If yes go ahead. If not then you know what needs to be done.

You guys should see a relationship counselor because it is obvious you have not been communicating well over the years, at least regarding this topic. You just assumed he was on the same page as you on a very fundamental thing. He also never took the time to talk to you about it. Now you are heartbroken because reality is different than you want it to be. You need to work this out with the help of someone who keeps you on track and doesn’t let you avoid the tough conversation. It is not unlikely…

Ask yourself this: How can you trust him to make sound long-term financial investments if he can’t even handle his ultra short-term cash flow properly?
