That is exactly the opposite of what a defense attorney is supposed to do. A defense attorney defends his client with every means at their disposal. Providing a robust and energetic defense is the courts expectation of a proper defense attorney. Anything less is valid grounds for an appeal. Even as it may sound insane, the defense attorney is doing their job correctly, and probably hating themselves for it.

I would argue a person is never found not-guilty. You enter court innocent. You can leave innocent or guilty. For example, if a person is found guilty in a court, and then it’s determined that it was a case of mistaken identity, was that person innocent, or simply not-guilty. I would argue that the person was innocent.
