I was expecting the honest truth. Liking guys for being muscular is not shallow, it's a physical preference. It happens to be the case that most women are not shallow, therefore they do not excessively care about a guy's appearance over his personality.

As a dude, I really don't care if another guy is jacked. It has no impact on my life, so I wouldn't go out of my way to comment to another guy about his gains. According to female friends and family that I have talked to, none of them are attracted to muscle. They might respect it the same way they would respect an athlete, but they wouldn't feel closer to the muscular man because he has muscle. As a guy reading through this thread, I'm extremely confused reading other guys' posts. I get that "emotional tampon" is derogatory towards men who don't set boundaries in friendships for their own protection. Yet on a deeper level, what this word implies is that men really just don't want to be friends with women, in general.
