Extensive reporting of this particular groups beliefs are pretty common from her earlier federal confirmation, but reporting of the general existence and beliefs of similar groups were not uncommon in connection to the popularity of the TV series. The teachings of the fringe group she is voluntarily a member of is not assumption on my part. No where do I say that she lives in abject obeisance to her husband in her own home. Presumably, though, she finds truth and value in those teachings. Yes, as you point out, that would be determined by each of the states, and they would not become illegal for all women. Their roots are strictly Catholic. The fact that they identify as ecumenical means that, yes, they should be referred to as such, but it is hardly inaccurate to describe it as Catholic as well. She was inspired by a charismatic Catholic sect in which the women were called “Handmaids” and were sworn to complete obedience to their “Head”, i.e. “husband”. Was it extreme to imagine a dystopia in which such a group took over the US?
