I'm subbed to several communities that have nothing to do with me for the same reason and commit to read only, no comments. That's more than enough to learn over time, no need to announce yourself. Communicating dissatisfaction productively and acknowledging when loved ones have failed to uphold a standard of healthy communication are active choices everyone has to make, and sounds like your mom has been unwilling to make the responsible choice.
