The pitfall of open access or pay to publish is not just that you can publish rubbish by paying but also that many others will also get away with publishing rubbish without paying. It is in their benefit to publish a lot even if there are freebies. In the science article I linked they did not pay fees either. Thus the point still is that this phenomena is not unique at all to feminism or social sciences.

All right so I see where the people are coming from when they feel like it is an attack on feminism. From that description alone I would definitely not agree with them and rather welcome the discourse. But I can see where the misinformation comes from. Pretty much all those examples I don't think are exemplary of feminism or they highlight nuanced or related issues that have been spun as anti-feminism. Not either of the ppl you were talking with, but I find this conversation interesting. I thought tumblrinas and misandrists were very small in number. Perhaps a vocal minority but honestly I hear about them almost exclusively when others bring them up as part of a discussion, so I wouldn't even say they're that incredibly vocal.
