Anyone know if they're making any distinction between trans and women? I imagine many male offenders are about to claim they're trans and try to get moved to women's prisons. And I also wonder if anti-discrimination laws will prevent the trans vs biological distinction from being reported as such in the census.

Right, and I assumed in this particular state that firearm carry (loaded or not) is legal. Still, if it isn’t, the officers may have treated the woman like someone who was kidnapped - even if illegal why would they think she’d be comfortable asking someone with a loaded firearm to leave her car? The issue I took with this video was a lack of professionalism on the officers, not an argument that everything that the suspect(s) did was legal.

Fascinating. Where are you, if you don’t mind me asking? I assumed someone carrying a loaded firearm in your vehicle would be their business and their responsibility. As long as you’re not doing anything you know to be taking part in a crime.

[…] she was swearing and calling them names, hence the "threat" of obstruction. Yeah, so hit her with obstruction, that’s fine. Really not what I was talking about as you know, and also not unprofessional. This girl was herself breaking the law, while also resisting arrest and refusing to answer questions about her boyfriend who ran (obstruction). She was not some random passenger in the vehicle caught up in this. She is not a random bystander. All true. Charge her with obstruction. Her boyfrien…

Let me add some clarity. Of course, you're right that her behaviour in general was police business; they busted her driving when she shouldn't have been, and her boyfriend had a weapon (illegally, I'm guessing) and ran. Fine. Specifically though, I was talking about the officer's inappropriate behaviour in response to her behaviour. What he was responding to was mostly childish wailing and nothing more. That is not his business - if she needs a babysitter, that's not his job. His job is keeping …

Right, I know they can lie or trick you. So to be clear, the drugs weren’t in your possession but they wrote it up as though they were? Did you have a chance to explain all of that to the judge? Also, huge WTF on calling your workplace - that can’t be legal?

Miranda only applies to in-custody interrogation. American cops can make a physical arrest and never make the Miranda advisement if they don't ask incriminating questions, like 'why did you rob that bank?' Questions like 'what is your name and DOB' are OK. If they saw you do it, they don't need to ask if you did and hope you agree with them. This is great info. So in that case - what’s the difference between custody and arrest? I always thought being taken into custody meant you couldn’t leave b…

Actually you’re right, I forgot that she was underage. So they would be obligated to call the parents. I’ve only ever had very positive experiences with police. In my city they are highly trained and generally competent. We had a disaster at our airport years ago with a foreigner who got negligently tased and subsequently died, but those incidents are the exception.

I also agree with him when he said you're old enough to drive without a licence, this is the consequences of those actions... Sure, and that’s true, but doesn’t need to be done unprofessionally and certainly the whole “I will make your life a living hell” was just absurd. If they had tried to talk with her and calm her down, let her know that as soon as they're at the cop shop they'll call her mum, she might have chilled a little bit. Right. De-escalation. It seems clear from the video she was s…

There’s two separate things here. One, her behaviour, which is not police business. Two, his behaviour, which crosses hard lines into unprofessional, intimidation, and possibly unjust prejudice. Her behaviour was childish, but his was worse IMO, because while she’s annoying, he’s actually abusive of his position in this video. Disclaimer: did not watch the whole thing from beginning to end, but I don’t think it matters in this case.

Totally. I guess I see part of the problem is this virtue of restraint that most men have. It’s an incredible virtue and should be treated with respect but instead women know they can do this and get away with it, and the legal system backs them up. In effect men’s virtue becomes the undoing of men as they get trampled on. I hate that, because I don’t want men to stop showing restraint and I don’t want women to take advantage. Nobody wins then. It seems sometimes like the only way out is to disi…

You and I actually agree mostly, but we’re not talking about the same thing. Also your stealing argument is a false choice, because you didn’t include the option not to steal. One option is better, sure, but they’re both wrong and morally you don’t get an out for it. Just don’t steal. Just like presumably the woman here could have not done what she did. E.g. just because the slaps and kicks aren’t hurting doesn’t mean you can/should do it or get away with it. Given the limited context here, she …

Funny how retaliating with back to back haymakers would be frowned upon but her back to back slaps and kicks nobody even mentions. The lesson? Show restraint even in the face of cruelty, because the world isn’t inherently fair. Men walk a tough road.

Let's not play victim Olympics. It's gross. Men and women are oppressed different amounts in different ways. Call it out when you see it rather than trying to generalize on the whole. The agenda should be fair treatment, not identity politics.

Judge by the nature and meaning behind the cause. The problem is that the 'nature and meaning' behind the feminism movement has warped. Watch the longer clip I posted for context, the woman speaking is quite clearly coming at it from a hostile place; not necessarily interested in bringing women up as much as tearing men down. The same has happened with BLM. It's easy to get on board with the sentiment (be it feminism or BLM or whatever else) until you realize the movement itself has very little …

Actually I have, multiple times in different ways. You just don't want to accept it. And that's fine. /r/MensRights26/01/21 07:16 AM

Look up what respect means. It seems like you think you can't be respectful to a woman and also hurt her feelings. But while sometimes it can include that, that's not what it means. When I hold someone in high esteem or regard, and have consideration for them, I am more willing to tell them the truth. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with overt vs covert, it has to do with truth vs lying.

Why are you assuming being overt is more respectful than being covert? I'm not, that's not what I said. I said respecting a woman enough to assume she can handle it. When I respect someone, I am willing to tell them the truth even if it might hurt their feelings. In other words, being willing to hurt someone's feelings with the truth is a sign that I respect them because it means I think they can handle it.

I'm not advocating for treating women like men. I'm advocating for respecting a woman enough to assume she can handle it if you tell her you're not interested. If you don't respect her enough to do that, then don't, I don't care. But if I were a woman I'd just as soon be put off by the idea that you think I need to be coddled and lied to. Swap the genders and you'll see it still holds, which makes it a good rule to apply to people, regardless of the sex.

Women aren't used to being vulnerable that way. Men usually have to initiate. She's probably not used to being rejected. Don't take it personally and know that many wome respond with anger because they're not used to not getting what they want. But there are also very many sane and wonderful women out there who would have taken it in stride and with grace, so don't assume they're all like that.
/r/MensRights26/01/21 04:39 AM

That is terrible advice. Treat adults like adults. If they can't handle it, that's on them. You shouldn't have to lie in order to keep people from being insane.

Well, the definition is changing, and it turns out that you can have PTSD-like symptoms (or perhaps even PTSD I think, IIRC,) from much less than, say, going to war. I'm not discounting what you're saying - I'm sure the psyche fields suffer from trends like other fields do, and it may just be trendy right now (for lack of a better word) to diagnose PTSD. It could even be something like people who are less familiar with trauma can't easily make the distinction between PTSD and other psychological…

No I can't, because I don't know. It was a question, I have nothing to back it up. I'm questioning the premise of the poster I replied to. If a man is abused by a woman, calls the cops and HE is arrested, can you please tell me what statistic factors this in?

It was a question dickhead, not a statement. That's why there was a question mark. Source or shut the fuck up. Here's one showing women are more likely to commit domestic violence.

And finally it comes out that we agree. Nobody should have a free pass. That’s.. what I was saying all along. Our disagreement seems to only be about whether women get a free pass or not, and I say societally they do where men don’t.

How it sounds to you is your business. Men also don’t hit women as a norm. That doesn’t mean we don’t have a moral reason that governs society not to do it .. yet we don’t seem to have that for women.

You’re right that it was a generalization, but I’m not doing so unfairly, because so is the assertion that “men hit women” (and shouldn’t). Yes, some do. And women shouldn’t unduly exercise their privilege either, lest they want to give up the privilege of not having men exercise theirs. That was my point, was it lost on you or am I needlessly repeating myself? History proves this out. It depends what you look at. If you cherry pick you can "prove" whatever you want. Go ahead and parse away to try and find those rare occasions And look, you even tried to protect your conclusion! You're wrong. I don't want to retaliate, I don't believe we should all be treated the same. We're not the same, that's an ignorant thing to claim. I'm not mysoginistic nor egalitarian. I think we're all just better off not hitting women and not getting free shit by hijacking male biology. Your random quote about what you think I think is just bait. What? No. That's not what I said. What I said was this: If it's a moral high ground for me not to exercise a huge advantage in strength, then women need to not use their sexual privileges to get shit unearned as well. In other words, the reason it's a moral high-ground for men to not hit women is because of the distinct strength difference. A man hitting another man of the same size and strength isn't viewed the same way for that reason, but just about any man hitting just about any women is fro…

One counter argument is that women aren't children; that's why we don't treat them the same way. And women actually can exercise control and choose not to, unlike children. They don't because they don't have to; partially because of the social repercussions to men who hit back, and partially because most men have the programming to know their lives become more difficult the moment they hit a woman, regardless of the circumstances. But while there's a lot of chatter about whether men should or sh…

So if a child hits you in the face you can unleash a right cross to their jaw? This is a false equivalence. A grown woman is not a child. A child has no logic and can't use their frontal cortex to reign in their lizard brain. Or are you saying men should treat women like children? There are weight classes in boxing for a reason. Boxing is voluntary. This was not. Unless a woman has your strength we cannot fight back. Women know this and that's why they do it. I can't even respond to the rest bro…

The reason to hit back isn't because women "want equality". They don't want equality, and this is case in point. The reason to or not to hit back has to do with morality. If it's a moral high ground for me not to exercise a huge advantage in strength, then women need to not use their sexual privileges to get shit unearned as well. And, IMO, they have no restraint in that department at all. So while they're using their privileges willy nilly, why shouldn't men?

But that doesn't mean she's guilty of a crime (yet). Someone off camera with a gun, perhaps? Extreme example and we know it's not the case but the point of the right is to assume there are other factors and allow the alleged to bring them up before we officially pass a verdict. Telling the truth is often the best thing to do, even if the other person turns it against you. This sub is slighted against women; its inhabitants are hurt.
