Overheard a conversation at work a little while back where someone was being fired on the spot, and this random guy was told by the female supervisor to come and stand by, "just in case." Um, organic chemist here. I am not prestigious or well paid. My daily mantra is "I shoulda been an accountant." Also, as a general comment, "STEM" is not an actual thing. It's an acronym made up by lazy politicians and lying lobbyists as an umbrella term for 'all that hard stuff most people can't do.' That doesn't mean it's all the same thing. Engineers make way more than I ever will.
