Yeah the whole waiting a few more years is definitely meh, idk, I know it's not great. Doesn't help that all my girlfriends are engaged/married now and I'm like "am I literally the last one even though I've been dating the same guy for the longest time amongst all of us" Thanks for the advice!

Nah sis, this whole reply sounds like you're just trying VERY hard to downplay the shitty attitude and shitty situation. Right, no no that's fair. I'm not trying to downplay it as much as I'm trying to reveal the nuance because obviously things can come across as a bit too black and white on text (when in reality there is always more subtlety). We have talked about engagement rings before. I have a very classic, subtle style (mainly wear navys, black, beiges, whites, professional clothing) and d…

Yeah, that's very solid advice, thank you. I guess sometimes it's hard to read people and fully understand what they want/ mean. Guys are hard to decipher. you know what? what's quite interesting (and I forgot this too because this happened a while back) is that after we talked, after I told him "hey why did you raise your voice at me its not my fault" and after he apologized (and boy did he apologize a lot for it because I was very upset) he did tell me: "listen, this made me realize just how e…

nope, no serious serious detail related questions about when we'd get married/engaged. He has said he wants us to keep growing and wants to see what our 'adult' dynamic would be like and how / if we'd keep working out outside of university/early career days. So he's being rather wishy/washy. It's always been the future goal but we haven't sat down and said "yes, engaged in a year, married in 2" It's hard right now with the long distance. I mean it's a bit frustrating in that I feel way more read…

Hm, yeah I mean he didn't mean it so straightforward like that, it was more of a "if you love it and wanted it as an engagement ring, I would consider using it, but now that you're already wearing it well it's a bit of a shame/out of the cards." He thought it was really gorgeous, but he followed up by saying "ofc if you want your own and don't want an heirloom I'd gladly do what I had always thought and buy you something I think suits you" He's convinced I want like the most classic elegant styl…

Hm, yeah no I mean it is a very unique and breathtaking ring, and when I saw it I said "oh, hm, I never thought I'd like a gemstone and halo look but it's actually quite regal" and he agreed. He asked me "oh knowing your classic style I figured you'd want like a subtle solitaire or maybe something on the more subtle side" (many of his guy friends are married/engaged so he knows a bit) He didn't mean it like "this is the one I would have used for sure" just if I had wanted it too. He did follow i…

Hm, yeah I should maybe clarify this for everyone but when I say we've talked about marriage it's more like we've said "yes when we are a bit older and more settled career wise and are just more settled then we'll make that step." We don't have a definitive timeline and he definitely does not have a stone cold plan to propose. So yeah, no plans, that's not the issue. He and I somewhat disagree on "when" it makes sense to get married, in that he thinks it should happen kind of when everything is …
