I would point out that Type I often includes a clitorectomy. Which in terms of the male equivalent is cutting off the acorn tip of a man's penis. So, I'm not sure circumcision really compares.

The article itself didn't have any particular feminist commentary, so I asked the question. I still think that if MRM wants to gain any ground, they have to stop creating an adversarial culture. No I think expressions of sexuality are fine... but they should be diverse and full expressions of sexuality. Uncharted is an interesting example. Drake is hot but not just because he's scruffy and he's well built. He's hot because of the way that he treats people around him. In this day and age of reputation vigilantism. I think I would rather wait for the legal system to decide on a conviction before reporting anyone's name. To the public, it should be seen as "This person has been detained for questioning". I live in Vancouver, and the amount of harassment that alleged rioters have received as a result of public media recording before they've even been charged with a crime is a bit wrong. "Big Brother" is out there... and it's us. :P

Quick comment about "per capita": I was responding to your statement about absolute earnings totals between male and female managers. I can appreciate the conclusion that if there are more men, then men's pile of money would be larger. However, "Per Capita" is a more useful number to discussing the disparity of wage in that context. You claim it's a small sample size. I'm not not following what sample set we're discussing. Women do fight for these jobs. There was a fire fighter who struggled to fit into a "locker room environment" of a boy's club in my city and faced discrimination on a daily basis because she felt that the by being there, she could make the situation better. Admittedly, I would prefer that as well. I do like gender-neutral language when there doesn't have to be one. Norway apparently has this kind of language. (there must be at least 40% representation). Pragmatically though, the bias is so one-sided and it isn't likely that it will ever swing the other way. sigh. It's not a company in the traditional sense. it's a "Crown Corporation". It's not publicly traded. It's owned by the government. I think it's reasonable for the government to dictate that the board should be representative of the gender distribution of the larger canadian society because it's correcting an extremely common form of discrimination.

Suppose there is 3 qualifications for being on the board 1) 5 years of board experience 2) A Masters in Business Administration 3) Bilingualism (It is a Canadian Crown Corporation after all) in French and English. they are adding another qualification to this that 50% need to be women. If you're unfamiliar with a "crown corporation". It's specifically government-owned corporation. The idea of equal representation on the board seems reasonable. Affirmative action is and should be a temporary measure to accommodate a significant misbalance until a balance or something reasonably close to a balance can be achieved.
