Thinking of oneself as oppressed leads to this "oh poor victim me" streak that's pretty self defeating and kind of pathetic. Don't consider yourself as a victim. Just don't play along.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Now you don't know what to think do you? Just f'ing with ya...

God this host is such a moron. The whole "Men Talk Honestly" title of this video mischaracterizes what the host actually does: shaming, ridiculing, feigning that he doesn't really understand what these guys are saying. And the comments are the typical "men don't want grow up" yada yada.

There are a couple great friends that I worry about a lot in this regard.

Reminds me of a scene from "The Captains" where Patrick Stewart is recalling some co-worker getting upset about having to work late hours because he'd rather be at home with his family....and PS thinks to himself "not me!" - Hope I'm remembering that right.

I would have spent more time cultivating friendships - I feel like it may be easier nowadays with meetup groups and such.

However, it goes off the rails a bit with the quote "Happiness only real when shared"

Just love how everyone is looking at him with such anger at the end. Ah, the understanding and empathy of a loving family, am I right?

I was nerdy looking as hell when I was a kid and my older female cousin used to always ask at family gatherings "You got a girlfriend?" just to embarrass me. Bitch pumped out 3 kids and left her husband with 100% custody while she went off to ride the CC in her forties.

I had one GF years back that would always question the rules in whatever game we were playing, and would throw a hissy fit if I played to win / took advantage of a game situation. Eventually I just stopped playing games with her because she sucked all the joy out of it.

Yeah it sucks when parents weaponize information you've freely given them. I learned at a young age to not divulge basic stuff like what girl I was interested in, hobbies I thought were cool or what I wanted to do with my life because it always came back in the form of teasing or belittling. It won't surprise anyone here that I'm characterized as the "sensitive one" in my family. LOL

Was thinking about this last night. I think since the 2016 election feminists/media have really been doubling down on feeding into the victim-mentality that women indulge in. I think for those who perpetuate or capitalize on victimhood culture, it sends this signal like it's worse to be a woman than it is to be black (after all, why else would Obama have won his election and Clinton lost hers?). So with the heightened media drumbeat of "women are oppressed!" I think you see more crazy come out o…

Peterson is good -- I like how he defends masculinity as a powerful force to be channelled appropriately. BUT he just doesn't have a good answer for the "what about men that don't want children" / "what about men who reject plantation life" -- just watch his Joe Rogan interview and he really struggles with this concept. https://youtu.be/jsMqSBB3ZTY?t=450

The ultimate cringe for me is her referring to him by <FirstName MiddleName> "Reuben James". This has a scolding maternal quality that is just...weird for a relationship

Yeah but I always felt like Schulz had this subtext messaging of "don't be like Charlie Brown"

There was a scene in Mad Men where one of the partners is complaining about his teenage daughter: "I can't wait until some man takes her off my hands". Watching it with my gf at the time and she was appalled at this language. I had met her dad by that point, and I just sat there thinking This is what your dad thinks about you, too.

"Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all" Considering the drug-like effects of love (e.g. withdrawal, chemical reactions in the brain), one has to wonder is it better to have tried heroin and stopped, than never to have tried heroin at all?

"Lots of people." is the most reasonable answer here, right? It reminds me of the argument I heard once: A- "You always think your way is the right way!" B- "Yes. That's why I've chosen it as my way."

we should all hope to identify with the "her ex-boyfriend" character: rich looking dude driving a convertible off to play a round of golf.

Used to manage a woman, who at the performance review asked "what can I do to get promoted next time?" Reasonable question, we laid out an action plan for items to get her on this path. Throughout the year, checked on these items....no progress. Then at the next review period I shit you not she asked for the promotion. I had to tell her I was confused because of the action plan we laid out, and no progress was made, I was not going to put in for her promotion. She left for another company.

That's the Clooney zone. Even though this person may not available for marriage, he's still desirable sexually.

This is just like Ahmed's clock invention though, isn't it? Even after it came out that he didn't invent jack shit, nobody really cared...he didn't get shamed in the wider media like he should have. I'm not one to think conspiratorially but how this incident played out was one that made me think perhaps the media does have an agenda they're trying to push....
