I see what you mean, but in your example the privilege is still being granted by the country club after the membership is purchased. If you look up the definition of privilege it's defining feature is the fact that they are given to you and are not inherent. It is; however, very true that some people are granted certain privileges because of the exclusive group they belong to.

You're right. The true definition of privileges is that they are granted, which is usually conditional on earning said granting but not the only way.

Just wanted to point out that what you're describing here is not a right. Driving on public roads is a privilege exactly because it has to be earned. As the person above you said rights are not earned, they are inherent and inalienable
