Get in a social circle as soon as you can, since the very first day (dont waste time because once circles are formed it's hard to get a foot in the door) talk to as many people as possible regardless gender, the more people you know the better, your preference should go to potential popular and cool people, hanging out with geeky social outcasts who dont go at parties isn't a great idea but get to know them too, better than nothing, this sounds like a stereotype straight out of a 90s high school…
