I agree about much that has been said above re the assumption of innate bad tendencies in men that have to be policed. I also find it odd that there is an assumption that men don’t police each other. The body of law that makes sexual assault and rape illegal was mostly created by men long before women had the vote. I don’t think this is true. Women were traditionally locked out of high position and wealth in society and so the main thing they had to offer were themselves. I think this may be the reason why, with women, there was always an emphasis on personal beauty and charm. All my lifetime (I’m 69) women have had to struggle with being slim and good looking.
