1	Makeup increases attractiveness in male faces It doesn't make sense to look at either number in isolation. They both affect the statistical power of the study. N varies by the math being done, and it looks like it's the 200 participants in this study, but the 20 photos is still a limiter on its accuracy. For example, all but one are white. 8	Makeup increases attractiveness in male faces FWIW the error bars don't really intersect. I don't know the exact math they used but studies try to account for that. Honestly not sure why anyone would doubt that erasing zits and hiding undereye bags would increase photo ratings. We're not talking drag queen makeup.
