we are not the same age (or nationality) but we have a similar type. You have the confidence to cuff them though. How do you do this? Are you a black belt in ego management? serious question(s).

all other things aside, if the mother is somehow sent to prison, then you will be a full-time single father nurturing an infant and raising a young child. just a reminder

That's not typical feminism yeah. If you had had a daughter you would have wanted her to find meaningful employment, be safe from violence or on the streets, be fairly represented in court, not be subject to harassment or assault, have access to finance when she wants a home loan, receive equal pay for equal work. These are the gains of feminism. What you're referring to is going into the territory of radical feminism, which let's face it has an equal but opposite manifestation on the male side …

I am not keen on that - that's kind of slathering on issues that he may internalise and mis-identify with. I think kiddo's work better with strong and gentle leadership and positive reinforcement, not being told that something he may identify with is wrong (or toxic) . That's a very adult concept and not a 6 yo issue, he is still learning not to squeeze puppies too tight or throw a stick at someone. I agree with your observation that masculinity is not inherently toxic but that behaviours are. T…

Wait what? It's nice to be there for someone. Her response very not ok in my opinion. I love being able to listen and support my people. Especially a partner.

Not sure if any sane woman +or man) would marry someone who'd been divorced 2, 3, 4, 5, 6??? Times before. I'd be a little curious about their motivation for wanting to get married. What's wrong with simply... not getting married? Do they have a marriage kink? Lmao

A good mediator will seek agreement on the most workable solution that meets the needs and reasonable wishes of both parties. They are trained to follow up on signs of abuse, and work through manipulation and stonewalling. The needs and interests of the child/ren come first. The agreement can be revisited later as the kids get older, for example. There are also financial mediators. if both of you just want to figure it out and even if you're far from each other's biggest fan, it should work for …

I am older. I care how I am perceived, but not at the expense of my inner peace, mental health, financial security (/independence) and safety. I can live without anyone who tries to impose on me that way. It took me a while to learn how to effectively stand up for myself. You know in your heart when that needs to happen. I still don't always get it right. I also learnt to believe in myself, and have certainty in my needs, which abused children often struggle with. Communication skills, regulatin…

Makes sense. I guess the guys I know who have done it are very clear in themselves that they do not want to have any more children.

It's the dream for us girls, because it means not having to mess our hormones around on birth control, or get bits of metal implanted, remember to take a stupid pill, freak out when we forget, whatever. I'm dating a divorced guy who's done it and makes a huge difference (psychologically among other things). More of y'all should do it. Frreal. I can't speak for the kids thing though. Aren't vasectomies reversible anyway?

Some people would say that the one who stuck around was a sucker for sticking around so long when there was little to no chance you wanted to be with her. (E.g. I had advice from a divorced male friend to definitely not wait around, when I realised I was falling for a recently separated man, and also knowing very clearly that this was not a good idea.) While I am a very realistic person, I went through a lot of pain in realising I had somehow ended up in that position. I'd be interested in your …

Crazy how you can't just grow apart and decide to set each other free to fart on the couch in private after being married 27 years.

Sounds like you're pretty clear on that which is awesome. I can relate to the anxious-avoidant conundrum.

This has turned into a bit of an essay, It sounds like you're deriving your sense of identity and self worth from people and things that are external to you as a person, rather than you in yourself. What did you learn about yourself in your singlehood gap-year? What sort of words or messages would you tell yourself if you had to spend one year without the nice car, the hot women etc? Outside your comfort zone. Learning how to do different things and not being better than other people/men without…

Be careful that you do not find yourself taking on responsibility for your mother's (or father's) emotions or the details of the divorce. She is an adult. It is her job to manage herself, and protect you, or at the very least not involve you & your siblings. Likewise, your dad. It isn't at all about being heartless, you sound like a kind person. It's about their jobs as the adults and parents. Objectively speaking and from a mental health perspective, it is not fair or ok that you feel you have …

That's a good point, feeling ok to tell a potential partner where my comfort zone with their kids is too. I'm going to reflect on this

Yeah I don't disagree. I actually hold strong views mostly against the theory and practice of marriage that I won't go into here

Thanks. I understand every family is different, but did it take a while for you to find your feet in the dynamic? Or I guess just a matter of talking it through as it comes up?

Thanks. And sorry to hear this. I guess I hadn't thought as far as someone getting married again and combined finances. Others have commented similarly so I should definitely consider this as a sensitivity. But what you said makes sense. Thank you

Yep, seems fair. (The mindset, not the experience)

so as in if she was happily financially independent this would alleviate a sense of $ responsibility or burden as a partner / and also not threaten your existing commitments (.. that sort of thing)?

20 years is a very long time. What is PTO? I think all kids need hugs and encouragement fwiw so I hear you. thank you for this

Sorry you've had that experience. I'm personally not into marriage for reasons so that's not an issue. I'm relieved because it's such a sticking point for so many. Thank you for your answer

Absolutely agree. I deeply wish we could revolutionise this. It's a form of socio-economic control that largely helps to uphold capitalist structures. I guess that's why no one in power wants to change it lol
