To not have the whole poem is misleading, if you can't see that you need to work on your comprehension. Taking something out is also editing. Also you just admitted that the reason I gave is the correct one by saying he changes the story to fit with how he thinks the world is now but you somehow disagree at the same time. I just don't know any other reason why he would do that except to push the point. The ending shows they don't get away with being a terrible person.
