These look delicious, the blueberries add such a gorgeous pop of colour! Can't wait to try making them this weekend. Thank you for sharing and great advice for smaller ovens! I usually halve the sugar in most recipes anyway. Happy baking! xx

I was very lucky to be born into a horsey family, and perhaps others who got into horses later in life may have additional advice. Your best first port of call would be your local riding school. Most riding schools offer introductory lessons for beginners on a safe and reliable mount using their equipment. Just make sure the school and its instructors are appropriately qualified/accredited. Hopefully someone experienced and knowledgable will be able to take you under their wing. If horses are to…

Horses are a huge passion of mine. I also enjoy swimming and yoga. I'd love to do a class in something artistic like pottery or watercolour painting and it's always been a dream of mine to try ballet, but I feel like I'm too old to learn. Maybe one day...

Sounds like the trash took itself out. Please be kind to yourself sweetheart. It's heart wrenching to read and I can't imagine how hurt you must feel at this time but you will get through this. You deserve so much better than a man that leaves you feeling this way. Thinking of you xx

In Australia, a proposed religious discrimination bill would allow health practitioners “not to provide or participate in particular procedures, treatments or other services in contravention of their fundamental religious beliefs”. The only examples I could find about it were male doctors refusing to provide prescriptions or consultations for contraception, IVF and pregnancy termination. You can read more about it here.

Be very cautious about who you share your full name with - especially if it's an unusual name or spelling. Go by a nickname or first + middle. Beware what information seemingly innocuous images may contain (eg. phone number on a dog name tag, airline/travel ticket...) Your work colleagues should be vetted the same way potential partners are. Do not blindly trust women in the workplace either, they may unknowingly share key information about you to predators in your workplace (eg. relationship st…

Just flagging - I'm a little wary that your boyfriend keeps these men as company. I get the impression you weren't there, and him retelling these stories to you seems a little performative, especially if he's still friends with them. Again, I don't have the full context but I just thought I'd mention x

This is me! I started reading about poker players and how they maintain a neutral expression, but I found that solved one problem but created another - making me appear stiff/tight through the face. What has helped me most is actually studying royal family members from around the world and trying to emulate their dynamic neutral expression. I try to keep my face "soft", soft eyes and soft relaxed mouth/smile muscles and I find that helps take the tension and expressiveness out of my face. I don'…

Highly recommend "Chat 10 Looks 3" - A peripatetic podcast in which Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb discuss what they're reading, watching, cooking, listening to or irrationally exhilarated by.

It often does build slowly. I really like the frog analogy: A frog dropped suddenly into boiling water will hop out immediately. But that same frog in slowly heating water does not perceive its increasing danger. This frog meets an unfortunate end.

It's so awful how subtle and carefully targeted men's abuse can be, and how easily they can plant seeds of doubt in our mind. Thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry you had to go through that, but so happy you are free from your controlling ex-husband. ❤️

I am so appalled by how normalised this sort of behaviour is. When you reverse the genders it sounds bizarre, yet it's so accepted for men to do. Love her attitude!

Great point! The author actually describes how disrespect can take the form of idealising you and putting you on a pedestal as the perfect woman or goddess. When men do this, they're not seeing you as a person, instead they're looking at you as a fantasy. And when you fail in fulfilling this fantasy image he has created in his mind, things can escalate into abuse.

A true HVM single father would invest his time and energy into his child/ren. A single father seeking a relationship is automatically LV. You will always be playing second fiddle to his ex and children.

It's dreadful. Not just the normalisation, but the extreme protection kinks/BDSM and even porn usage have somehow garnered in society. You daren't question or criticise them. I fear we're too far gone to solve this problem. A rather depressing thought to end this evening on...

Me 🙋🏼 I am windowed from a HVM, well I consider him a V(ery)HVM. I know in my heart I will never meet someone like him again. I believe there are other HVM, but they are few and far between. I think there is a huge luck element. You don't get lucky twice, and I'm certainly not wasting my time and energy to find out. I just want men/society to be content with my decision. It's exhausting defending my singledom. I am content in my solitude.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for. <3 Doubting myself over questions like this does make me question the field I work in - but I am truly passionate about the work and it's what I did my PhD in. I just hate working with these often incompetent and intrusive men. Ugh.

It's definitely a balance. This is a response I have used in the past with very intrusive questions and found to be super effective. But, with questions that fall into a grey area, it can seem like an overreaction and I don't feel it is conducive to building strong working relationships.

I love these suggestions for outside of work and you raise such a good point about the shame element, but sadly I couldn't see these working in an office environment where I want to build rapport x
