As it should be. For a fair trial there must no bias in the jury's minds, for or against the accused.

Well ideally yes, but it's not easy. In any crime, the best evidence would be a video and/or audio recording. In rape, if you have neither then the next best evidence would be vaginal or anal tearing (and not a little tearing, but a lot), a semen sample (assuming the rapist is male and didn't use a condom) and injuries to the victim. Without these it basically comes down to he said/she said, he said/he said or she said/she said. And you can't convict a person solely on the word of another. Discl…

and the court cleared the guy so quickly because they just didn't give a shit. I'm inclined to trust the jury. I agree that we can't know what happened, but the likely reason that the jury found the guy innocent so quickly is because the prosecution brought no substantial evidence to the table. Their case seemingly hinged on people assuming that no-one would lie about such a horrific crime. Therefore there was reasonable doubt in the jury's minds. Edit: Changed hindered to hinged.

To be fair that just means they felt there was no evidence. It doesn't mean that he didn't rape her, just that there is a reasonable doubt (for good reason i.e. lack of evidence) in their minds. I personally am inclined to trust a jury's decision. They see evidence that no-one else does (I think). I suspect that the prosecutor that brought this case got a good kicking (metaphorically speaking) from their superior(s).

As far as I know, though I'm neither an American nor a lawyer, even though the fellow has been found innocent, the accuser's anonymity is still protected by law. They cannot publish the accuser's name without being in contempt of court. In addition the accuser may be able to sue them. I say again, I'm neither an American nor a lawyer. This is purely speculation on my part. Edit: Added apostrophes.

....As we believe it is probable these views would be aired in this discussion should he be allowed to speak on campus, we have no choice but to ban him." Absolute rubbish. Do NOT pretend that you are making this decision because you have no choice. You have at least two choices: let him speak or prevent him from speaking. You are making an active choice to prevent him from speaking. By all means, ban him. But don't pretend that your hands are tied. It's insulting. For the record I have no idea …

When an older male engages in sexual activity with an underage girl, it's labeled rape, pedophilia, molestation and abuse in the media (rightly so, in most cases). I assume by "in most cases" the only exceptions' you are implying are either when someone underage lies about their age, or when the male (or female or other) is raped. Edit: Added another exception.

What the fuck is wrong with the people in the comments section of this article? And what MRA would accuse an 11-year old girl of "seducing" an adult man? Any person in their right mind would call for the man to be castrated without anaesthetic, and tortured for the rest of his life. Edit: Clarified which commenters I was referring to.

It is not realistic to draw a conclusion by comparing only two cases. If there were, say, ten cases of women posting revenge porn (of herself and a man), and 10 cases of men posting revenge porn (of himself and a woman), and the women were all spared jail, whereas the men received an average of 5 months, then we could make an observation that there was a gender bias in the severity of the punishment. For the record I do believe there is a gender bias in sentencing, but we mustn't clutch at straw…

Looking through the comments, I see that some people think that women will be against a male contraceptive. Why do they think this?

One does not negate the other. We need to identify the factors that lead to suicide or attempted suicide in both men and women. We need to identify which factors overlap (i.e. affect both men and women) and which factors are unique to each gender, and then tailor prevention schemes to address the issues: one to support both men and women; one to support men through hardships unique to them; and one to support women through hardships unique to them. The former should work in conjunction with each…

Sorry dude but you deserve to be slapped down for that. Yes, radical feminism is a problem, but your description is just a blanket and incorrect generalization of ALL feminists.

You're saying that reverse racism is a subcategory of racism? The use of the word 'reverse' then, implies that there is an opposite. So then there is forward racism? What is forward racism?

The wage gap is largely a semantic issue, and a "nobody in sociology knows what 'controlling for variables' means because most of the field isn't fucking scientifically minded worth a fucking damn or they'd be in another field" issue By this are you referring to the bell-curve? Sure, there are more men on high incomes than there are women, but there are also more men on low incomes than there are women?

This is brand that, from what I can gather, specializes in products aimed primarily, if not exclusively, at women. I see nothing wrong with them using the proceeds of sales to advance the cause of women's mental health issues.
