Gay men are still men. Masculinity and heterosexuality aren't opposed to one another. Also it's a caveat that each of the rp characters are revealed to be illusory in some way but you are right about the conclusion.

You can write about anything you want in poetry. Robert Bly, a noted poet, wrote Iron John and there's lots of excerpts from other poets in there.

I'd also recommend literature. Moby Dick, Hemingway, Thoreau, get an understanding and enjoyment of literature because it gives you insights and experiences that deepen your understanding of yourself.

Robert Bly in Iron John, Sam Keens Fire In The Belly all lament the loss of the initiatory experience. Girls know they are women by biology, manhood has to be induced or directed.
