Awesome. I usually work the same # of hours. You're right that the job diversity isn't as good in the midwest. Pretty much every job I've had has been some sort of generalist/jack of all trades gig. There is little demand for specialists in my area.

Yeah, I need to make a decision and stick to it. I have been going back and forth for quite some time. When things get rough at work, I resume a job search. When things get better, I stop sending out resumes. The job search process takes quite a bit of time. You would have to get a big signing bonus and a big raise to make it worthwhile. I think it could be worth it to get out of your rut (if you are in one), but you would have to find a great offer with a great company. It is a big risk too....…

Yeah. They are usually married. Heh. I know one guy who is married with three kids and he seems like he would rather be at work. Another guy is single and has no life outside of work I guess. It's sad when someone says that their COMMUTE is the best time of their day. I agree with you, work 40 and GTFO. Between work and commute, that's a huge chunk of time as it is.

I didn't save the links but see those posts from time to time. After you have a good deal of money saved (capital) That's the key. Rental real estate seems like a big hassle. I have heard that REITs are a better investment once time is taken into consideration.

I have had that happen with car mechanics! Don't even get me started on how one place turned a $300 into an $800 job and they still didn't get it right. I paid with a credit card was able to do a charge back. Lesson learned. The two companies I have been looking at have almost all good reviews, but I will definitely exercise caution.

Damn, you started early! I did the whole school/work full time thing as well but nowhere near that. Helps that the economy has been growing for the past 10 years or so. I was hit with two recessions. The main reason I would be moving would be more job opportunities. I am trying to think of other reasons to live in a big city. Proximity to sporting events would be cool but I only go a few times a year anyway. There is nightlife (bars, clubs) but I'm not really into that scene all that much. Yeah With the flakiness of this economic system, there is no guarantee that my career (esp in a volatile career like tech) will last until retirement age to support myself let alone someone else. Nobody seems to get that.

I bet she doesn't react too well and ends up involving her mother, my dad's gf, her daughter, etc. From what I gather, he father worked his ass off running a business and her mother was/still is a SAHM. 70? Heh. She might provide better care than a nursing home.

I have no reason to believe she does. She lives in a small town with her parents, homebody, almost always home unless she's hanging with family, car is always there. Probably has social anxiety or something.

Yep. BTW she left her husband (and kids) a few years back and ended up shacking up with another dude. This sucker (who is already paying child support for two kids) proposed to her and they are getting married. Funny it's always divorced people that are trying to hook people up.

They're not even his neighbors (at least not yet). He's been talking about moving in with her. Ugh. She does cook and clean. She takes care of the gf's house when she is out of town. The living with her parents thing at that age is odd tho. Maybe the gf is trying to do her parents a favor and try to take her off their hands so she can mooch off of someone else.
