"Just be yourself" is a strategy for women. Women, usually our mothers, tell us that line because it works for them. If a man applies it, it's useless and even damaging. This is why being raised by a single mother is is so shitty. You need a lifetime to relearn how to be a man after you realize your mother taught you stuff that worked for her, not stuff that will work for you.

That's right. It reminds me of the difference in how women and men use Social Media. My male friends argue about the validity of things I post. They are negotiating the truth or goodness of content. Women rarely argue and tend to like my posts when I have hung out with them recently or given them something. They're validating me, not the content.

Everything in life serves a purpose for a time. When it's time is up, it isn't needed anymore and should be let go. Suffering comes when you try to continue doing something long after it no longer meets the need it once did. Giving up porn might be liberating for some at certain times. That doesn't make porn bad. It means that that person doesn't need it at that time.

Choice is the key word. If men are stuck in a pattern of pleasing women to feel valid, they haven't chosen that path. If men are stuck using porn, they aren't choosing that path. It's all about men having the freedom to choose whatever way of being they want. If a person grows up and society only gives them one option, they don't have the freedom to choose something else. However, if society gives them more than one option, suddenly freedom is theirs.

When a person goes into therapy, they bring awareness to areas that they have been blocking and ignoring.
