Female. While these disparities are important to acknowledge when trying to decide "who's worse off" - and are a key argument against women's victim card - their existence, by themselves, has a large natural gender-difference component. Globally, I'd guess (I haven't studied this) men tend to take more risks, and as such enjoy greater rewards and greater penalties. Right now society is trying to skew this - women see the rewards and want them, but not the risks or the penalties - but it's not po…

You'll probably need to compromise on things (polished silver) - sorry if you're a neat freak - and outsource some, as described below. In my house, it's mostly the compromising. It's a bit chaotic. If that answer doesn't satisfy you, I'd consider factors such as -whether you have kids, how large your space is, how much stuff you have, how many nooks and crannies there are, how dusty it gets, what labor-saving appliances you have. A 1-bedroom for two, designed in the style of clutter-free IKEA (…

Well, I'd look at why a given piece of advice, particularly from a man, raises your hackles. In the ideal situation, he knows how to tell you things tactfully, and you trust him enough not to bristle at it. Calibrating your communication is part of the adjustment that has to happen in a happy long-term relationship - and when people can't, or the effort is too great, the relationship probably won't work out. To illustrate, here are some sample situations: -Is he trying to solve a problem when yo…

I just finished "Skin in the Game" by Nassim Taleb, and learned the idea that the essence of virtue is having "skin in the game" - i.e., being at risk for the negative consequences of your opinions and actions. This is more general than day-to-day wifing, but I really like the idea (and the author).

With regards to dating, I think the best you will do, especially with younger 20s guys, is to find good raw material - or semi-polished by an obliging high school girlfriend, who treated him well and taught him to treat her well in return. By this I mean someone of good character, honest, not a "dark triad" type of guy, is employable, etc. Specifics evolve as you work out the kinks of your relationship and reveal each other's preferences (e.g., flowers). But this has always been the case since t…

I don't hate my generation, but do often feel isolated, because I have to choose my words even with my closest friends, living as I do in a large metropolitan area. Add also that, while conservative, I am not religious - and that further narrows the field. However, this helped me with dating, ironically, because there were so few with my set of preferences for a non-religious, right-of-center guy such as my husband to date.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
