The first that comes to mind is one in which the lie indirectly damns someone innocent as opposed to directly. If testimony is purposely falsified that Bob Smith was at the mall on Tuesday, which prosecutors then add to 2 or 3 other circumstantial pieces of evidence to convict a man of raping and assaulting someone, that's not nearly as egregious as pointing the finger and saying "that man Bob smith raped and assaulted me", or even "that man Bob smith raped and assaulted her".
