Where I live, they bring a bill to each person so everyone pays for what they eat unless you ask for one bill. It seems like the most simple way to deal with this and I think it makes no sense to bring only one bill per table. Why should I pay for my friend's meal? Splitting the bill isn't even fair if one person ordered something more expensive.

Damn... Here in Quebec, Canada (most probably not representative of the rest of Canada) the waiter usually asks how many bills. Most of my dates have replied “two”. Back in the day, it was just as hard for a woman to be a medical doctor than to be an engineer. That didn't stop women from outnumbering men in the medical field today. In a society where many women are stay at home moms, shouldn't it be perfectly normal that men earn more? Men have bigger financial responsibilities. How many men have to pay for everything in their home? How many women do? That alone not only explains the wage gap, but means that if their wasn't one, it would be unfair. Actually, evolution is the fact that species change over long periods of time. The theory of evolution is the the explanations for that fact.
