Another flip side of this trope, is the idea that women are inherently worth risking life and limb for solely due to their femininity. The idea that a man need to suffer and risk injury for a woman and only then are they worthy of female attention. It is damaging to both genders. And very lazy story telling.

Hitchens is wrong in this video I disagree. He felt that if a woman was in a relationship with him, he would prefer if he could earn the money and they could be a stay at home parent. That is his preference. It does represent traditional gender roles that you may not see as fair, but you can't force someone else to make their girlfriend get a job if they don't need them or want them to.
