I know this topic is long past and my thoughts make no difference, but I finally realised I may have taken your first comment a little out of context. People(including me) get so touchy on subjects like this that idiots like me think any term, including religious folks, is hate speech(or something like that, like I said I'm an idiot), when it is actually just used to state an opinion or argument. I'm sorry I troubled you.

And how am I doing that exactly?

I'm not twisting words or meanings though, I'm arguing against your points as YOU put them...

Wow you're being serious? You're the one who started our argument, and how am I word twisting? Finally why are you calling me a religious zealot? Now I'm some extremist just for defending my beliefs like you did?

This makes a lot of sense, thank you for explaining it to me. Occasionally I have trouble understanding what others say in discussions like this, or even forming my own thoughts into coherent sentences, so it helps a lot when people explain it to me.

See, responding with respect and a coherent argument. Thank you for responding, I respect what you said and I can't honestly come up with an argument against it at the moment.

"People are indoctrinated from an early age and told that whatever is written in their holy book is true, when we all know that none of that crap is true. It's all stories, unproven stories." Right. Never said that. How exactly is my logic flawed or that last comment supposed to prove it? You have been on the attak this whole time and while I've argued against every point you never once defended yourself, just continued to spread hate speech about religion which "is all stories. Unproven stories…

Seriously? I was expressing my opinion and you came in with "religion IS indoctrination" and "everything from the Bible is crap" and you call me "made up" "twisted/faulty" "close-minded" and "intellectually dishonest?" This is either a subtle troll or one of those fedora-wearing "enlightened" middle school kids. You do real atheists and intellectuals proud today son and I tip my mlp fedora to you.

The dictionary says there IS religious indoctrination, not that religion is indoctrination. We don't know that "none of that crap" in terms of the bible is true unless you can prove it, which you can't. And just because we are raised to believe it is true doesn't mean we are brainwashed; this is all a horribly negatively biased way of thinking, which doesn't look like there was any actual research involved. Before you start spouting indoctrination comments you should take a look at your own poin…

How exactly is it indoctrination?

Ah thanks for clarifying. I'm catholic as well, but unfortunately I get most of my information from news sources, so I was either mislead or so hopeful that I took it out of context; likely both.

How would there be no religion left without indoctrination? Plenty of people, after looking at both sides of the argument continue to believe in religion not because it's programmed into them but because they truly believe it. And as far as the atheist indoctrination part, I sometimes have trouble forming my thoughts into coherent sentences. What I mean is that because some religious groups have made bad claims against atheists, these atheist automatically claim that these religions are bad or i…

But religion doesn't indoctrinate its followers as you claim. Yes, there are groups who are against gay marriage, abortion, etc. but that is only misinterpretation by those groups. Just look at the pope. He has said on worldwide news that the church has no problem with gay marriage. And I do know how to use those words correctly, you proved my point by going out and saying this about "religious folks." Don't you realise you are doing the exact thing you claim they do?

Using "religious folks" is a bad example, and comes across as hateful. The same could be said for the KKK or any other group for that matter, including atheists. Not that I'm comparing atheists to the KKK, I'm just saying you could use any group that doesn't involve religion or lack thereof and not come across like you are bashing a group like that.

This is literally the most basic philosophy course my COMMUNITY COLLEGE has to offer, there are no prerequisites for it at all. It is actually one of the top community colleges in the country, but some of the classes leave a lot to be desired.

Yes, it is from "Ethics Theory and Contemporary Issues Seventh Edition with Readings" by Barbara MacKinnon I believe Sorry I've been busy with homework today and finally decided to scroll through these comments to see if I could talk to people. I'll try to find some sort of link if you want but I'm tired so don't expect me to deliver. I am OP after all. Also sorry for the block of text, but if it helps that was not the only part of ecofeminism discussed. She also wrote about a group that celebra…

Patriarchy: noun, plural patriarchies. A form of social organization in which the father is the supreme authority in the family, clan, or tribe and descent is reckoned in the male line, with the children belonging to the father's clan or tribe. Straight from Dictionary.com Riiight...nothing to do with gender. EDIT: in the family not I the family.

I hadn't realized it until you made this comment, but I've come to the same conclusion. I lose interest anytime I see a key term like that.

As I read further into the incredibly complicated word-filled(I couldn't think of a better way to word it, don't judge me) section, it said there was a group among them who realised the difference between men and women and rejoiced in it, but they were shunned by most other groups. I was going to post a desperate comment but this subreddit is a lot busier than any other I've posted in and people were already commenting.
