I think that's a patriarchal issue but it's definitely separate from the academy awards itself. Or, largely separate, there's of course some trickle of "only men win Oscars" but it's most likely minimal compared to other social and organizational forces. We see the same thing in engineering, where fewer women even choose it as a path of study due to pressures of society overall rather than a specific school excluding women, so fewer women are recgnized in the field. Some engineering environments…

That's what I was questioning, I understood the first guy's comment as saying that men win because the "bribe" the academy favors is male led films.

Your second point is really irrelevant to whether a patriarchal standard is being upheld, women uphold the patriarchy all the time and I almost referenced such in my first comment. But I see now, you meant that just the movies being selected are at issue because they lean toward blockbusters and oscar bait, not that men are required to win academy favor, right? So then the issue comes to writers, producers and casting directors, and the market itself rather than the academy.

How? I included their point. If it's not about women underperforming and is just about men being the only thing that can appease or bribe the academy, how is that not patriarchal? Why can the academy not be appeased or bribed with the things acted in or created by women? You've actually ignored my point to hamfist yours, which is expected of this sub

If appeasing the academy means selecting only men, is that not patriarchal? That's like saying women being denied college educations or high paying jobs was due to a need to please the Board of Directors rather than sexism -- if the Board only selects men, it's sexist.

This sub is literally just for people to watch women get shit on. Did you expect it to be any good? This is a fake response, it isn't even a good fake response, and it's somehow on /r/all.
