Why is everyone assuming the one walking away is the male? Oh wait...

Switch to a job you really enjoy, even if it pays less. Your alimony will be based on your salary at the time, and if you took a high-paying job you hate just to support your family well, you're going to be punished for it.

That is just plain awful. These women would throw away their marriages over a vote that cannot possibly matter? Jesus.

Was down in Chinatown the other day, and spotted an Asian woman on an iPhone giving her husband (presumably) a viscious verbal beatdown. She was screaming at him and making chopping motions with her free hand. I don't speak Chinese, but the meaning was quite clear. I've no doubt that dude was praying for death.

My ex is going for Art History. That's gotta be worth something.

Actually, that image has clearly been stretched some horizontally. Anyone have a better one?

Higher education is broadly useful. Specifically funding one parasite not so much.

That he filed doesn't necessarily mean much. The marriage could simply have been intolerable for a variety of reasons. Better to divorce than die.

Men are just as bad? Is that supposed to be encouraging?

I have experience something similar to this. It's a contradiction in a way, because IRS stipulates that a series of payments can't be called "maintenance" unless it terminates at the man's death. So technically, there is no remaining maintenance due after the man dies. I don't think that annoying fact has ever gotten a guy out of the life insurance clause, though.

Methinks the lady doth protest a bit much...

One divorce rape later, you may feel differently...

Agree. If a relationship doesn't make sense right after a fap, it doesn't make sense at all.

Yeah, have some compassion for the hoodwinked.

Mostly awesome. But would always suggest getting an attorney consult.

Good advice. Note, though, that owning or renting is largely orthogonal to the rest of this. Run the numbers, and think about how you personally feel about the pluses and minuses of each. Neither is inherently a better deal--both have their risks.

Some of it is crackpot, but overall definitely worth the read.

Being able to retire early and do what you want with your time.

Would have thought it was mostly guys, like in Death Hunt...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
