What about an amaryllis? Or pears from Harry and David?

I love this and I'm so proud of you. I think one of the ideas that really resonates with me is that you had a right to be upset. Telling yourself your rights gives you validation and choosing to lay down those rights for the bigger picture helps quell resentment.

I have no advice to give in regards to her ex. Looks like many others have given her good guidance in this thread.

Take care of your kids until they are grown. Work on yourself. When they leave the nest you'll be ready to find love again.

We are looking forward to the day when we have enough money to hire some domestic help. I think it's good for the economy and good for the person we'd hire. It seems odd to me how much she agonized over how much to talk to the housekeeper. Does she have the same issue with the server when she goes out to a restaurant? I don't find housework degrading. I actually really enjoy cleaning other people's houses. I can see how cleaning her friend's house as a teen would be awkward but I love caring for…

I have a large circle of male friends. My husband doesn't seem too worried about it but I let him know my boundaries. I don't hang out with them one on one (it's normally a group of us playing D&D). I also don't spend much time messaging them. If I enjoy a show one recommended I'll let them know. I don't message them about personal or emotional issues.

Women want the "rights" that men have, but not the responsibilities. They want to free the nipple but they don't want to work in a coal mine.

It's pretty ugly. I'm not going to buy that. Most of my friends are not going to buy that. Let's see how it goes for H & M. I'm bad at trends, idk. There are differences between men and women. I think the war on gender turns in on itself so I don't think we need to be super out spoken to try to stop it. Celebrate the differences between men and women in your sphere while you wait for the war to implode. I do not like preachy. I do not go to art to have someone else's morals crammed down my throa…

So many of the comments say, it's your life, it's your body. No it isn't! You got married. You joined your life and your body to his. What do people think marriage is?

Yes! And they're saying how classless Melania is. I thought posing nude was empowering? One friend complained that we now have a Kardashian in the White House. Way to disrespect a whole bunch of women. I must say, it's kind of fun to watch them turn in on themselves.

The other day a feminist friend of mine got backed into a corner and invited the guy for coffee to discuss things further. I had just made popcorn and settled in.

I really like it here. I've been around long enough to expect harsh replies. That's what we all need sometimes.

I've done Al Anon and it was very beneficial. I can't do it right now but I go through the literature when I feel like I'm losing my grip. I'm handling things really well right now.

I didn't want to say exactly what it was in case you didn't want the accounts linked. I'm very careful with my words. I think I need to work on facial expressions, body language, etc

I'm committed to him. I'm not leaving him. I can't say divorce has never crossed my mind but it is not on the table. I can't imagine my life without him. I'm still giddy around him. From a practical stand point, if we divorced, he'd have unsupervised access to the kids and I'd feel less safe than I do now. I need to monitor my responses to him. I don't express displeasure but I might not be pleasant either. I need to make sure that I'm open to any response (you're right). We don't talk when he's…

Yes, I remember you from when you were the "lovely rocketeer." I love this community too much, I can't give you up all together. I think what I'm going to do is present things in a way where we can just have a conversation and he can say no without having to say the word no. I messed up big time with my friend. He ended up taking things into his own hands anyway and I respect him immensely for it. I'm sure that doesn't make up for how disrespectful I was. I will continue to analyze my behavior. …

I didn't marry an alcoholic. I didn't have my first child with an alcoholic. He became an alcoholic while I was pregnant with our first child. His job was a hostile environment at the time and I think the stress of being responsible for a family got to him. He started drinking gin and tonics to the point of oblivion almost every night. I was in denial. About a year later I confronted the issue. He started going to AA, I started going to Al Anon, things got much better. Nowadays he generally only…

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm thinking this situation is outside of the realm of advice that this sub can give. I'll refrain from asking advice in this sub in the future.

The conversation was kind of all over the place. I asked him not to interact with the kids when he's drunk. He said he didn't want the kids to be at the party. I had asked if it was ok with him to bring them beforehand and he had said yes. (This was a housewarming party. The hosts have a kid our kids' age. We weren't planning on staying late because we were teaching Sunday school the next morning.) He said he feels powerless to say no to me.

I need to work on being more respectful. There's no magic answer on how to have a functional relationship with an alcoholic but that's what I have to figure out. I don't try to change him but I do communicate my boundaries and that's what our conversation was about.

There is a super cool local chocolate shop nearby. I'm going to get him an assortment of weird chocolate (mushrooms, edible flowers, etc), a dozen roses, and some crafts made by our little ones and deliver it to him at work.

I was just talking to my husband about this kind of thing. We effortlessly balance each other out. If I were a single parent I'd constantly have to check myself to make sure I wasn't pushing my kids too quickly. As is, I can follow my natural tendencies and trust that as I encourage them to grow and take risks he's simultaneously making them feel safe. In some ways I feel very blessed to have found him. But I also know that I was thoughtful in choosing him and that I've worked really hard to kee…

My husband is so so so slow. He does everything slowly (except drive in the rain, which makes me a nervous wreck). He's saved my butt countless times by taking the time to actually pay attention. One time I almost walked away with someone else's luggage because the attendant had called out the name and it sounded just like mine. Husband took the time to look at the tag, while I huffed and puffed, and saw that it was almost my last name but with a "T" instead of a "D."

I relax and watch tv with my husband but that doesn't make me feel cared for. I think not understanding how to fill my own bucket has been part of the problem for me. Actually accomplishing tasks that only I care about will be the ticket, I think.

I think part of this revelation was from reading through the challenges this week! And, yeah, I knew about martyr syndrome yet somehow convinced myself that that wasn't me.

I think all of them are about my husband this week. Is that cheating? He is such a good daddy to his two little girls. Patient, compassionate, but also challenging them to learn more and do more. He is a good provider, working from home to make sure projects run smoothly and his customers are taken care of. I admire his work ethic. He is really really really good in bed!

I feel like the word "planning" is really boring. I think if you frame it as "building anticipation" it's a lot more fun. Like, instead of putting something on the calendar, you're sexting ;)

We are finally home after 113 days in the hospital. Littlest One is cancer free! Life is exhausting and overwhelming but so so so good! My heart has been in two places for the past four months. Reunited and it feels so good!

Started the weekend early and went to an international stout day celebration at a local brewery last night. Tonight we're going to see Hacksaw Ridge. Baby is still in the hospital but we're finding little ways to sneak out and keep our sanity.

I'm grateful for my husband. He is constantly on the look out for opportunities to connect and that really blesses me. I'm grateful for my mom. She has been amazingly supportive and brought my oldest up to the hospital today so she could see her little sister. More hubs gratitude. He's an awesome dad. He really is exceptional!

Good: It's game night! Going to play D&D :) Husband and I had a really good talk yesterday (which he initiated) about closeness and intimacy, what is working and what we need to work on. Bad: Came home from the hospital to spend time with my Little One and she's out with grandma. Ugly: Littlest One is still in the hospital. We're on day 90. Favorite Movie: Bladerunner. Awesome film noir about perception and what makes humans human!

Good: Doctors are starting to discuss an end date for our hospital stay. Our littlest one has been in the hospital since July 19th but it looks like we'll be home by Halloween! Bad: We're still in the hospital. My husband is starting to go stir crazy and is getting pressure from his boss to go back to work. Ugly: All of this drama has really shown us who our friends are. I've been unpleasantly surprised at some people's true colors. Bonus: I love my steam mop! No grungy bucket of water at the en…

I'll add a personal anecdote about my obliviousness to nonverbal appreciation. A few years ago, after I got laid off, I went into super wife mode, house looked prefect, I looked perfect, cooked his favorite meals, etc and he didn't say a thing. After two weeks or so of him not saying thank you or even acknowledging all of my hard work (lol) I told him I was upset that he hadn't even said thank you. He replied, oh, I didn't say thank you?' and left the room. I pouted for a while and then started …

Hi! I feel like you're my friends even though I usually just lurk :) We've been married for 10 years and have two little girls. I'm very traditional in my values but I'm also very mouthy so I'm working on that! This sub challenges me and encourages me so much!

I don't have a flair. I lurk here constantly but don't think I've actually introduced myself. I'm grateful for my husband. We're going through an incredibly difficult time and he is carrying our family. He is crazy strong in every way. We have awesome friends that we can lean on and cry with. SURVIVOR is on tomorrow!!
