1	Tried as an adult vs. statutory rape. Double standard? TL:DR; The law is not only trying to protect minors. It is also trying to protect people from minors. A basic premise is that minors have not yet developed their decision-making abilities completely. When someone takes advantage of this (e.g: statutory rape) the law tries to protects the minor. On the other hand some minors commit crimes. The law is also trying to protect the victims of those minors. Lawmakers don't want that being a minor is a get-out-of-jail-for-free card. So I have to admit my reaction was probably pointed too much to big universities. 1	Did my professor really say this? If your philosophy professor, of all people, is going to deduct points from your grade due to a different viewpoint you have no way to prove it. So it is perfectly possible you don't eat enough when you are young and don't grow tall. But during puberty you start eating junk and grow fat. (I find a couple of contradicting sources but just watch the magnitude). This increases the average income of an American man with approximately 18$ per year.
