I'm glad that you weren't intending to mock trans people, but you should bear in mind that a very common tactic of transphobes is to mock the very notion of being trans. That is often done in the manner of arguing "Just as a white man who identifies as a black man is still white, a man who identifies as a woman is still a man." (It's not even true that trans = identifying as "another" gender) More often, this sentiment is condensed and packed into all sorts of shitty jokes that demean us for who…

You're getting butthurt over something so marginal, it's stupid. It actually drives people away from being supportive. Well that works out just fine for me. I'm not interested in having people like you as allies.

I read it as a joke and I'm just assuming everyone else was as well... Of course it's a joke. I know that. The problem is that the joke is rooted in a sincerely transphobic attitude. The only reason people ever make these jokes is to mock the notion of trans people's gender identities. There's a difference between making a joke just for the sake of a laugh without the intent of hurting anyone and literally mocking someone else's identity. Note also that this is definitely not the first time I ha…

You MRAs are an interesting bunch. You constantly demonize second-wave radical feminists texts you have no understanding of and cite the transmisogyny of TERFs as evidence of misandry but when it comes to mocking our existence suddenly TERFs aren't so bad. Friendship is a wonderful thing, you know? :3 Even hypocrites can benefit from it. How cute.

The comment reveals that he thinks the idea of being transgender is absurd. That's why he's making the jokes - they are actually negative judgments on trans people disguised as jokes. The nature of this mockery is similar but not identical to the mockery hurled at male victims of prison rape (in that it is actually rooted in an anti-male view, not simply mockery for the sake of fun). It's quite fair to assume that his mockery is inherently transphobic because I have extensive experience with bot…

The addition of the "trans" prefix to various words is a thinly-veiled attempt to mock of the very notion of being trans. Trans-exclusionary radical feminists engage in the exact same kind of mockery. Note also that the comment mentioned the word "transgendered", which is in no way equivalent to "transracial" or "transabled" (made-up terms solely for the sake of mocking trans people). A benign word used to describe a real group of people is lumped in with all of the absurd terms.

Your mockery of trans people is awful. The fact that you actually have 245 upvotes and only 50 downvotes says a lot about this subreddit. No one is even calling you out - as of now, this is the only one doing so. No wonder arguing with you folks about trans issues is pointless. It's because of assholes like you.

You have an obligation to have sex with your partner. Are you aware that you are saying this in an internet space where many victims of female-on-male marital rape lurk and participate in? Why don't you say that to a man here who is a victim of marital rape? I guess it's best that you don't talk to female-on-male rape victims, though. They already face enough marginalization and mockery from society; they don't need even more of it from people who hypocritically claim to support men.

Traditionalists also don't buy into the truly ridiculous "marital rape" stuff that feminists love to spout. You claim to be supportive of men while regarding the concept of marital rape as "truly ridiculous" and ignoring the countless male victims of marital rape. How hypocritical.

Of course it has a meaning. It's one of several known terms used for people whose gender doesn't fit within the gender binary. I hope the more reasonable folks of MR downvote you. Comments like yours don't do much to improve the MRM's image, especially among trans and genderqueer people who are interested in the MRM.

If I am a straight white male, but I don't rape. I don't participate in misogyny, or any other sort of supposed activity that my uber privileged race gender combo is claimed to be responsible for then I no longer identify with this depiction of gender stereotyping. Therefore I MUST be a "Genderqueer" You're ignoring your own definition. The only thing that makes you genderqueer is identifying as genderqueer - it has nothing to do with behavior. Maybe it's best that you talk to an actual genderqu…

My question is why you think you'd be greeted with anything other than hostility. I would certainly expect to be greeted with hostility if I expressed a sharply dissenting view (like if I argued that the patriarchy still exists). But my comment didn't address any particular views; in fact, the most I said about my views is that I'm a feminist who disagrees with the author's ideas. Other than that, I simply criticized parts of the essay (such as its failure to address the prompt) and offered some…

There's nothing wrong or unusual about mocking something that you despise. I mean, I fully admit that as a feminist I find mockery of feminism annoying and cringe-worthy. But mockery itself is benign. It's only really wrong when it's bigoted in some way e.g. mocking a male rape victim and calling him "gay" for being raped by a man.

I don't think you understand those jokes, but there's no point in arguing about that here. In any case, my comment history and my jokes are irrelevant to what I wrote. I'm not here to cause trouble; I'm here to offer sincere criticisms and suggestions (none of which have anything to do with my feminist views) because I want the author to get a good grade regardless of his views.

Bear in mind that I'm a feminist and I disagree with the ideas stated in your paper. But I can still criticize it in a way that is hopefully constructive. If you're going to write an anti-feminist essay, you should strive to make it a good one. Much like a line, it keeps going. This simile requires clarification because of its vagueness. If you need to elaborate on the meaning of a simile, it's basically pointless. I suggest you get rid of it, but if you really want to use a simile, use one that…
