But why an attack? I'm just confused as to how it's hurting white men. I'm genuinely curious. I'm not playing devil's advocate. Are we demonizing men by advocating diversity? No need to be condescending. I wouldn't pick a less-qualified candidate just for the sake of diversification or the opposite, but some people do. I think it's an easy error to make when a group of people consistently sees representation that doesn't feel like them. That's a foreign, or at least fleeting, feeling to most majority members. It's a shitty error, and I'm not justifying it. I'm just saying I don't think the notion of diversifying representation is specifically an attack on men. Though…

It doesn't seem so farfetched to me that someone on the island could have a screenprinting set at home and have shared views with the mayor and provided a shirt for her. It's not difficult to produce a black t-shirt with bold white type.

I don't view this as an attack on men but more as a call for demographic diversification in political representation. It seems valid to me; aim for the representation to reflect the citizens a bit more. I'd call for that regardless of the structure (overwhelmingly straight/gay, black/white, male/female, etc).
