So with all this in mind, is there a way to educate people on controversial issues without confirmation bias/backfire effect kicking in? Or a way to circumvent them/lower their effect as they happen?

Yeah, sure, studies have shown that they last longer but it isn't the good kind. It's the "having trouble reaching orgasm" lasting longer. And lasting longer isn't that great for women all the time either. Women are less likely to reach orgasm with a circumcised man, more likely to have vaginal dryness (not because of lack of initial arousal, but because the exposed head of the penis without any foreskin scrapes out the lubrication). Circumcised men are more likely to experience erectile dysfunc…

Fact check/correct them and put up posters of your own. Be sure to source the information. EDIT: suggested changes: workplace deaths, murder victims, assault victims, domestic violence (corrected), dating violence (corrected) rape (corrected), child abuse by parents, child sexual abuse (corrected).

Point being, if a woman has sex with someone under the age of consent they get a lower sentence (IF they are given any prison time or charged at all) than a man who has sex with someone under the age of consent. And no, a woman raping a man sometimes has difficulty being processed under normal rape laws because forced to penetrate isn't considered rape.

Plus, the 2-8% number only includes accusations that were taken to court and proven to be untrue - it does not include cases in which charges were filed and then dropped. There are no doubt more cases that are false in which the charges were filed, the accusee's reputation was destroyed, AND THEN the charges were dropped because the damage was done. Not to mention the cases in which they were false, but there was a guilty verdict (of which there are at least some; see: Innocence Project, althoug…

I'm referring to women who rape/molest 1-9 year olds. They still get extremely short sentences, if they're imprisoned at all. But yes, it also happens with women who rape boys around the age of 12-17, especially teachers. Just because it isn't pedophilia, doesn't mean it isn't illegal and it doesn't mean they should be doing it. It also doesn't mean they should get shorter sentences than men for the same crime just because they're women.

Thanks for the information! Did not know that. Do you have a source for the heart disease info? Would like to look over it myself so I can spread the information around a bit.

It is up to the citizens to decide what they want to try in the bedroom. Women have every right to say no if their partner requests to try anal sex, and likewise they have every right to say "sure, let's research on how to do this safely". The government should have no part in it. Besides, when they say that most women don't enjoy it, does that mean they continue to do it when they don't enjoy it (to please their partner perhaps? I don't see that as a big deal), or that they tried it once - didn…

In the US: There's a department of women's health, but not of men's health. In Australia (perhaps canada too?): Female health funding quadruples that of male health funds. Prostate cancer has close to the same number of sufferers as breast cancer, yet gets half the funding. There's definitely a gap, but it's not on the side she's suggesting.

I've yet to see a single one of these feature a female perpetrator, or an adult male victim at all. Not that these mens' stories don't matter, it's rather that I feel they're leaving out the majority of male rape victims, and making it harder for them to contact anybody for help. The majority of all rape/sexual assault/etc is heterosexual on both sides as far as I know.

The sentencing gap. Just for reason of being male, men get 60% longer sentences than women. Not only that but, women are less likely to be arrested, sentenced, spend jail time, etc. You'll see this a lot with stories of female pedophiles or murderers. They'll get a suspended sentence, or community service, or 8 months jail time, etc. http://www.law.umich.edu/newsandinfo/features/Pages/starr_gender_disparities.aspx http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2144002 http://www.huffingtonpo…

Very true, it's best as a two part answer I suppose. This, and then examples/what can be done to work towards it.

This would be the best and easiest answer so far. The other answers here will just be examples where this statement is not true.

1) Where is the money coming from? Would this result in a high jump in taxes? 2) No, the income for children should not go to the parents. That's far too easy to abuse. It should be able to be used ONLY for necessities of the child at first (vaccinations, diapers, food, formula), clothes etc can come out of the parents' money (too easy to resell to get the money by proxy). Or, perhaps, only a percentage can be used for the above. The rest should not be usable by the parent and goes to the child …

Yes, there is. Sure, he took nudes of her without permission. Acceptable reactions would be: telling him to delete them, taking his phone and forcibly deleting them, breaking up with him, kicking him out. Violence is NOT an acceptable reaction, period. Especially because she hit him MULTIPLE TIMES, even chasing him out of the building, down the street, dragging him back, etc while he was apologizing. If a man did this... well, first he'd be told it's not a big deal that nudes were taken, second …

No particular order: 1) Circumcision banned (even in cases of phimosis a small dorsal cut with no removal of tissue is all that's needed so there is no such thing as a "medically necessary" circumcision) 2) Equal DV shelters/hotlines for men, or neutral shelters enforced and for those male shelters to have equal resources (counseling, child care, etc), duluth model no longer taught, police given information on how to better handle domestic violence calls 3) Child custody 50/50 or flexible shared…

Yes, poorly timed article. Only giving her coverage when she's unlikely to get funding due to it. But, luckily, she achieved - and got twice as much - funding already. On the "balanced" in quotations, they haven't seen the documentary, so they can't really comment on it themselves, can they? They are quoting someone else who claim it's balanced. Other than that, it looks like a decent article.

I was pleasantly surprised by many of the comments there. Though I noticed that on many of the male domestic violence posts have the comment of "there are three sides of a story, the woman's side, the man's side and the truth" but not on the female domestic violence (victim) posts.

I hope they address the many factors of male suicide, including child custody, divorce, alimony, child support, and lack of resources and awareness for men. This is a step forward, although given begrudgingly.

Which situations do you mean? And of course if you can avoid the situations do so, but if you do end up in a situation where legitimate sexual harassment/rape is taking place don't stay quiet unless perhaps you have a legitimate reason to believe you might come to serious harm because of it. Although I admit this might not work as well for men just because of the lack of empathy. Do you have any suggestions for men in those types of situations?

If not that, then their previous actions should be taken into consideration the next time they do it, and as far as I know they aren't - it's considered "their sex life". Or perhaps that's only on college campuses? Either way. Their actions need consequences. A false rape accusation should be considered fraud.

Teach people to fight back, men and women alike. Make noise, attract attention, call the cops, say no as loud as often as you can. It has been shown to help stop rape in its tracks. I'd add on that, although I'm not sure if I consider coercion to be rape, that it should be taught (to men and women alike) that guilt, shaming, and threats (threat of false report, divorce, not seeing children again, violence, etc) is abusive behavior and if someone does that to you maybe don't call the cops but qui…

Ah I didn't know this, thank you. If anyone has seen Daddy I Do (I intend to watch at some point but haven't had the time) could you please comment? Was she interviewed or was she actually on production? Either way, the silence isn't surprising. It's a common tactic when going up against someone who's "turned" to the other side/disagrees with you that you once respected, similar to people in scientology who cut people (family members, friends, even previous members) out of their lives for going …

Anyone interviewed is listed as a cast member, no? Correct me if I'm wrong. If not, in her AMA the creator of The Red Pill said that once feminists realized she was starting to become sympathetic to the movement they started cancelling interviews - Marcotte may have been one of them.

Yes. Being rejected isn't fun no matter who you are. Realizing someone doesn't feel the same way is disappointing, frustrating and sad. Perhaps women are more likely to get angry and lash out, more likely to be self-entitled in regards to sex, etc, but it's always disappointing.

New post out! (Should I update via a new thread, or in the comments here? I don't quite understand how this works though I'd prefer to keep it to one thread), this is one about child support and child custody. I don't have much information about child custody, despite pursuing various resource hubs posted in this thread, on the side bar, independent searching on my part and elsewhere so if anyone has some information on that that isn't there already, please let me know so I can add it. I'd espec…

I don't think limiting discourse and disagreement is a good idea. Free speech needs to be had, even if people get annoyed. How else do you expect people to learn, if they first can't challenge your ideas? How do you expect to learn? If you shut down people's criticism, you risk becoming what tumblr is: a hugbox. (edited for spelling)

The question should also be asked of, "Should harassment be used, by the person being harassed, to deflect criticism? Is it a legitimate deflection/defense?" (no), and it should be said that by making yourself a public figure, especially on the internet, you're putting yourself at risk for harassment. Lots of people don't seem to realize that 99% of threats are empty. That doesn't make them right, but it is an important thing to know. Take threats against Erin Pizzey when she began talking out a…

A very good article, for sure, but I'd like to see it mentioned there the exact numbers. In the UK, men commit suicide three times that of women. And that the rate for men is increasing. "The male suicide rate has increased significantly since 2007, the ONS said, while female rates have stayed relatively constant and were consistently lower than those for men." That's pretty disappointing. I got excited seeing the posters - gender neutral/mutual anti-rape posters?!? Especially having to do with verbal coercion which many men experience from their girlfriends or wives - but there always has to be a caveat doesn't there? Rape has nothing to do with male entitlement, this is a simple fact. Self-entitlement from a small selection of the population for both genders, but it is not a gendered crime. That said, one more thing: If rape has anything to do with m…

I feel pretty bad for this woman's career though. We Hunted The Mammoth has already posted an article claiming her award is fake with no substantial proof. Her career, as Karen Straughan has said, is going to go up in flames after this. She'll be tarred and feathered for going against what's being said against men. I appreciate what she's doing and look forward to the documentary (I contributed to it, too), it's very important, but this is what you risk for doing the right thing. edit: here's a …
