I share a name with a woman who has been missing for 5 or so years. A man I had a very brief relationship with(prior to finding FDS), decided it would be funny to bring up her name whenever he said mine. He thought it was hilarious. I confronted him about it later on through texts so I would have documentation of it if ever needed. His reasoning was that she was a known drug user and prostitute. When I pressed further he got angry that I was upset over the situation so he replied with something …

I know. It's crazy and not right at all. It just really gets to me when people dismiss things like International Women's Day and feminism based on their westernized views and experiences.

The kids and I went on a vacation without their father and I lost almost 20lbs in that month, effortlessly. Gained it all back and then some pretty quickly after. I've realized I binge eat to keep myself feeling complacent. My new apartment will be ready in a couple weeks, I can't wait to pull myself back together. It's a little delayed, as I planned on leaving for January 1st but was unable to find an affordable apartment in the location I wanted, but, I signed the lease, first month rent is al…

I actually still talk to my dad. My mom died when I was 16 and shortly after I moved a few hours away by myself. We didn't talk much until a couple years ago. He stopped drinking and became a whole new person and is actually very supportive and understanding now, but I also live 10 hours away now and never see him. So for now, having him in my life doesn't impact me in a negative way. Also -- I apologize for the horrible grammar. English is not my first language and I only recently started learn…

Same. At the time, I didn't really think anything of it. I was just happy to have a boyfriend.

I'm so sorry you went through that. I can't imagine what goes through someone's mind to allow that to happen to their kid, especially under their roof where they have all the control.

I agree that strict parenting can cause trauma and rebellion. I think being permissive is fine so long as the parent is still actively trying to guide their children to make the right choices.

I really don't know what they were thinking. They definitely did not act like parents once I got old enough to take care of myself. I could do whatever I wanted with no consequence as long as I went to school and didn't destroy the house. I used to say I turned out fine, but I finally stopped lying to myself. On a positive note, it's shown me how to be a better parent and not let my trauma affect my children's upbringing.

My parents really let me down on this one. They let me date and enabled a relationship with an 18 year old, when I was 13. The relationship led me to believe that sex = love and messed me up in so many ways. Now that I have daughters of my own, the fact my parents let this happen and drove me the 1 hour it took to get to his place seems even more insane.

I started college in September after being out of high school for 12 years. I have a diploma in esthetics, but didn't have an issue completing it since it was mostly practical work. I'm currently taking a 2 year web and mobile development course and due to covid its all online. Saying I'm struggling is an understatement. I can't watch TV or movies because I can't pay enough attention to be interested so lectures on a screen are a big challenge. After talking to the school psychologist, she think…

I finally made an appointment with an outreach worker to get the help I need to never go back. It took 6 years to realize that it wasn't my fault that he treats me the way he does, but I still struggle with minimizing the abuse because it was very covert. No violence, no threats, no name calling. So much gaslighting and manipulation. For the most part it was so subtle I didn't realize what was happening.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
