Sounds like a second date to me. if you feel like she's trying to friendzone you make a point of saying the words "We should be friends" to her. Hot girls have the biggest egos, you think you feel bad hearing that shit? she's a hot girl, guys are supposed to want her. And at the very least a female friend is a great resource for advice and conversation. Can't really practice banter with your guy friends.

You're right, asking questions is boring. Tell her a story about yourself , doesn't even have to be a good story. in fact if it's terrible all the better. try to bring her into the story "what would you have done in that situation?". get her out of her head and engaged in a little role play so you can play off her energy. Conversation is a 2 way street.

more along the lines of plastic bags are bad for the environment ... but it's implied. don't force anything. especially the name, don't even bother if it's not unique or you don't have a story. I recently talked to someone called Ella because I'm a home brewer and that's the name of my favourite hop variety. A Yanny wouldn't even hit my radar.

I mean anything that isn't the normal exchange of pleasantries. asking for no plastic bag can be a conversation starter (but there is usually time pressure from the customer behind you) I already said nametag. some unique names out there ;) older workers are also usually better for a conversation because they are fucking bored and welcome as much chit chat as they can get. Lets change the shy life together.

Start with servers. it's their job to be nice to you, they essentially open you so it's easy, try to get anything extra out of them besides have a nice day, you're not trying to pull just have a fucking conversation with a person you don't know. they usually have a name badge so address them by name if it doesn't feel too weird or creepy. (don't lean in to read the name tag as you'r talking) being shy sucks
