I unsubbed some time last year and only stopped by today to see what was going on here. Still, even when I've spouted opinions against the narrative, my opinion was never silenced and I can't remember a single ad hominem being thrown my way. I think most of the users here argue in good faith.

At the risk of stating the obvious. Because when it comes to violence, men make up the majority of both victims and perpetrators. Creating a safe zone that limits visitors by gender when gender is a common factor between victim and perpetrator would likely accomplish very little. It would be like tackling the problem of cuckoos stealing eggs by restricting access to only animals with wings.

I don't think there's any doubt about whether it was a joke or not. There's also no doubt about whether or not this is a double standard, which is why people draw issue with this kind of thing.

Until you provide some reason as to why you think one way or the other, your statement just comes off as pure emotion. In any case, I doubt it's as black-and-white as some people are mentally ill, others are evil. The two don't strike me as mutually exclusive for a start.

In defence of this, the readers seem more pissed off with the writing than anything else. Suddenly aging a character 9 years without ample explanation really does come off as cheap writing. You end up with a different character than the one you grew to love. Pun most definitely intended.
