Context matters a lot here. It wasn't a comment about her hair being bad, it was that she has hair typically considered to be boyish, and that meant you could make an assumption as the type of person she was. Imagine if it were a guy wearing make up and some pink dyed hair? You can bet that sub would make the same kind of comment and yes it would still be sexist. I originally made the comment because of the irony in the post, and just found it humorous that true sexism was in the comments when t…

Do you really not think stereotypes are the basis for sexism? That is the definition of any ism, enforcing stereotypes. It's really not hard, I wasn't saying anything about you as a person. it was just a dumb comment, I know it wasn't intended to be sexist but it literally was. Not even in a reaching way. I think i was being pretty reasonable through this whole argument and not dramatic at all, you're just trying to devalue my point with the soapbox comment.

No no ya you're right. On a post about a women outrageously defending feminism you made a comment about her hair because her style legitimately bothered you. There was clearly no second meaning there, just shallowly informing everyone you don't like her haircut. I guess that's better.

Well I agree to an extent, I said that comment wasn't a damaging one. I think there is room for joking in these subjects and don't think people like her in the OP shouldn't at all be validated. But you're comment wasn't a joke, it was just a hateful comment based on some small pointless measure. And yes, that comment is the same thing just reworded. The implication is the same. The 'type' of haircut she had you are considering 'boyish' and making assumptions based on that. It's really as simple …

"Yeah you can tell by that butch haircut of hers she's a real bitch" Would you say that sentence is sexist?

Judge people? I'm not judging you. I very much doubt you are truly a sexist person, I don't think most people are. But that's kind of the whole deal behind what I think is the true heart of the current social justice movement, avoiding this kind of accidental/casual sexism. And yes in your comment you are directly commenting on gender stereotypes. "You can tell be her haircut what type of woman she is". It's obvious what's being implied by that. Otherwise what would a comment on someone's hair h…

Seems the same as calling a woman with that haircut a bitch, no? It's a stereotype based on gender which is sexist. It's not like those are mutually exclusive terms. Stereotypes can be, and usually are, the basis of most -isms

I don't understand how that relates to me being sexist? I wasn't making any comment relating to gender? Further I don't believe you were truly making a joke and rather an observation. I'm not so much of a prude to call out someone for truly joking about sensitive subjects and am on the boat that taking comments like that too seriously is actually damaging to sexism. But just making a casual comment on assuming the 'type' of woman she is because she has that kind of hair cut seems obviously sexis…

"Stereotypical woman with that hair style" But that IS sexism. That's like the most legitimate form of sexism. The post in OP is dumb reaching feminism I agree. Haha, how is that sexist?

Implying: A woman can't wear a non traditional hair style with out being "One of those" women.
