Went through something similar a while back. First and second dates were easy to get, but then once I actually started caring and getting attached it would scare them away. Turned out I was acting really different once I cared, cared too much about what they thought, tried to impress, got quieter, shyer, more awkward and they would lose interest. Top comment by inspiredshane is the right direction, go for internal motivation not external.
