1	XKCD takes a pot shot at PUAs It's important to realize how easy it is to make scathing comments like this and pass them off as legitimate criticisms. You can say these things about anyone in almost any circumstance but more than that, attacking at peoples weaknesses and insecurities (the very things they are trying to improve) is a blatant cheap shot and cowards move. In a social situation a silent type would generally just look weak and creepy - the alpha of the group who is having fun and leading shows power, is perceived as fun loving and is much more attractive. In addition to this, smiling at others causes them to reciprocate your smile and almost forces them to be happier and perceive you more positively and less as a threat.
