I make 50¢ more than my two female coworkers. But here's the thing, I make more than them per hour now because I asked for it. If women and men were socialized from birth and embedded in a culture that didn't lead to this difference in outcome then your co-workers would just be particular women who didn't ask for an increase for their own particular reasons. We don't live in that world. We live in one which is teaches people different lessons depending on their (assigned) gender. It's exactly pr…

This is also a socially constructed idea of masculinity.

Why are you getting so heated about it? They can afford to, since they are so not unattractive? That's my guess.

It's also in the fossil fuel companies' interest to encourage people to feel they have no personal responsibility for climate change. Apathy and inaction and leaving decisions to others is what they want from us.

Empathy is hard and exhausting. Derision and hate feeds itself in a reaction that is self sustaining.

Any focus on men, however temporary or contingent, is helping an already privileged group. Tax money and charitable donations given to projects like homeless shelters that mostly help men amount to a form of theft from women. The work you do here, advocating for men and not women, is itself also inherently sexist and a type of theft. This seems to be the very black and white/winner-takes-all/zero-sum attitude that some self-consciously-liberal, terminally-online men and women take.

Then why do they die more? Personally I think that men make fewer attempts since they they don't expect to receive any help from the attempt. I don't have any data but my default position, I suppose, is that most attempts are people trying to articulate their suffering in way that will be heard, rather than a sincere try to self-annihilate. Men expect to feel shame and be shamed at looking for attention in that way. Just some thoughts.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
