Its not technically a double standard because there are two different families. For all we know the husbands family would have the same reaction to either spouse trying to make the other get sterilized. It would be a double standard if the wife's family told her to make her husband get a vasectomy, and then balked at the idea of him telling her to get her tubes tied. It seems like an easy solution to this would be to have events like this held in pairs. So basically you have The dads only session, at the same time as a mother-son session, then halfway through you switch and have a moms only session at the same time as a father-son session. Then the next weekend you do the same thing but for daughters. This way the men get the outreach that is sorely missing in the education system, and sensitive idiots don't get their feelings hurt.

I think you are conflating two independent issues. 1) The man who was falsely accused has received no apology, or reparations for being falsely imprisoned, and 2) the real perpetrator cannot be brought to trial because of the state's statute of limitations. No, this is not hard chemistry, and my feelings were not hurt. I was just annoyed that the only mention of gender in the 6 hour training course (I had 2 more hours after this question) happened to be in a sexist comment. I am sure that the question was not written with any malice, or involvement of radfems, but this course offers certification to signify knowledge of federal laws, and therefore should not show any hint of sexism.

Yes. This training covers multiple types of confined spaces, and the particular section dealt with toxic/noxious gasses being created when compounds react. And the reason they use that example, I think, is because the training is for everyone from college education engineers to people who may not have graduated high school, so the training has to be accessible to just about every education level.

Its all online, and if you answer wrong they make you reread the preceding section. I know that they left that part of the question vague because this section deals with noxious gases forming from reactions, and for liability purposes they need to teach that mixing any chemicals without instruction is bad procedure. I honestly don't think it is a homophobia thing. I know that a male doctor would still treat me in a professional manner, I just prefer not to have men handling my private areas. I am heterosexual, and it reflects in who is allowed to handle my genitals (preferably only my GF). The problem with ignoring stuff like this when its found in advertising is that advertising has such a strong impact on our culture. If we want to change the way people think about "casual" sexism we have to bring attention to it, convince people that it is unacceptable. One more reason I'm glad I didn't get involved in greek gife or ASUA stuff when I was at UofA. So much bullshit in both organizations, and its not the first (but probably the worst I've heard) scandal involving those two groups. This is also a perfect example of why I find code of conduct policies at public institutions so flawed. FWIW The article does say that the female teacher was not identified in the Ministry of Education report. It does seem, IMO, that the author would have reported the female teacher's name had it been public information. Touche. I guess hatred was too strong of a word to use. Mea Culpa. It really did seem to me like he was just ignorant and got ganged up on, but after rethinking and rereading the comment thread, I am more inclined to agree with your interpretation.

I have to say I am somewhat concerned by the hate received by the original comment. Yes the man had misandrist (sp?) thoughts, but he clearly was not aware of why his initial thoughts are wrong or hurtful. The purpose of downvoting is to remove the crappy comments not to disagree with someone. Also, the way he was treated as a collborator even though he is simply ignroant is what I find most offensive. IMO that was a perfect chance to bring in another MR supporter, but he was likely driven away …

I actually just got the second of the three shots, and my only comment is, "Where's the pian?" Everyone else who I've talked to who got the shot (all girls) said that the second shot is extremely painful, but TBH it felt like a tiny bit worse than a normal flu shot. /sidebar

Wow, even though the father was awarded custody, the mom still gets visitation rights, and the child is still under the oversight of the court. A total of $2500 in fines for the mom and grandmother and no mention of if the mother has to pay child support. That's just despicable.

In all honesty, while I fully support the inclusion of female to male rape in the new definition, I can see this leading to a dramatic increase in false accusations when everyone who regrets a drunk hook-up is suddenly reporting a rape. Then again, the new definition would mean that if both parties were drunk than both parties report a rape, so it might equalize the proverbial playing field.
