Dating for years doesn't have to be 10 years before marriage. But I'd say most of my friends are getting engaged at the 3 years mark (now that I'm getting older anyway). However it doesn't stop us from vetting before it happens. Maybe it's a french thing, but I've always found that men would be adamant about not getting married if they don't want to anyway. Most of the ones I've dated have been honest about that. But then again, keep your eyes peeled ! I'm sorry I can't really compare to America…

You date, and at some point you implicitly become boyfriend and girlfriend. You'll have to initiate that talk of you want to make sure where you stand in the relationship because that's not something we do. Oh that's not an option ! He'll wear a condom. I'm just paranoid about getting pregnant and trust the pill more than condoms when it comes to preventing unwanted pregnancies. Obviously you need condoms for STD prevention anyway.

Just got off the pill a month ago after breaking up with my ex. Realized I've been taking hormonal contraception for 10 years for no other reason than to benefit men. I will probably use it again if I ever find a HVM in the future because I want to have full control of my BC, but no before. Good on you for listening to yourself ! Girl he is already BLOCKED. As soon as I told him we were over, I blocked him everywhere. He still has access to email and phone calls, until the day we move out and settle everything.
