The ironic thing is all those feelings (which I know what you mean, I’ve felt it too lol) about the way he guides the meditation are yet more objects for meditation. But yeah I’m not trying to disparage other methods or teachers.

Well yes that’s the Vipassana teachings that the duality of subject object is an illusion, experientially. However if you find yourself lost in an intellectual process of thoughts than you’re not meditating, you’re lost in thought. The dissolving of this illusion is not meant to be an intellectual pursuit. However, that’s not to say you shouldn’t try other mediations or continue other practices that give benefit. I suggest the waking up app created by Sam Harris he does great guided meditations and there are many conversations about relative subjects and many different meditation approaches. Also if you can’t afford the membership you can get one for free by emailing his support staff.
