If the mom decides not to, expecting the police to follow the law, then it's the police's fault. Why would she bother if according to the law she doesn't need to? Either this is shitty and misleading journalism not telling the whole story (most likely) or the police have made their own decision not to follow up. Police don't just wait for the victim's go-ahead when there's hard evidence if they believe a crime has been committed, before investigating. It's not a thing. This woman has been let do…

What? Do the people of this sub know what pressing charges is? It's not up to her to press charges - the police have all the evidence they need to go forward.

She does stand up for him. She's been to the police and is on tv complaining about the case, which is what helped spur the police to get their act together. What exactly is the bad parental decision. Not "pressing charges"? You guys are aware that she doesn't need to press charges, right? The evidence is out there and this is down to the police. Pressing charges is for when you yourself are the only one with evidence or witness statements to go the police with.

There is a reason why the juvenile justice system is a thing that exists and is separate to the adult one. They should not be given the same treatment as adults. And the law agrees.
