It definitely stems from a sexist tradition. It doesn't need to be that way today, though. If you don't want anyone to walk you, walk yourself :) My parents were abusive and neglectful, so for my first wedding, I walked my damn self down the aisle. As far as I was concerned, they already "gave me away" with their behavior. I'm not sure what I'll do if I ever get married again. I'm less angry at them now than I was.

So true! If you asked if they would date any other “normal” job (accountant, electrician, receptionist, sales, etc.) they would have no problem with it. Sex work is definitely not “just like any other job.” There’s a huge stigma in most of society towards it, and there’s even a tiny bit amongst the libfems/“woke” crowd who claim to support it.

Somehow it’s more spontaneous to sleep over than to have sex?

I think this is due to the fact that the word “homemaker” isn’t commonly used anymore. Nowadays, many people use the term “stay-at-home mom” which implies that they just sit and home and don’t do anything. Being a homemaker or housewife is definitely a full time job. Asking “do you work” implies that being a homemaker/housewife isn’t “real work” and it’s a red flag.

My dad is like this to my mom... it's unbearable to be around. She used to half-heartedly stand up for herself but now she just takes it. Really depressing.

I think you can get a public defense attorney if you can’t afford to hire a private one. I don’t know any details about that, though. Good luck and I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I think the exception to this is if they're a virgin due to religious reasons (like wanting to wait for marriage). But yes, I do agree that if they're not religious and still a virgin at that age, it's a red flag.

Funny that some guys would think this is being "whipped" but it's actually kind of a Chad move? Like, I think even a guy who was sort of a playboy type would seem really smooth for having tampons and pads stocked up already. I think most women would find that really attractive. Maybe that's just me though lol.

As someone who has gotten a divorce, I know for a fact that you hurry that shit along if you really want it over with. My ex was dragging his feet with the paperwork and we ended up signing a few months after I really wanted to (we also ended up waiting a little longer due to COVID and scheduling with the courts, etc.) I was irritated about delaying it by a few months. I can’t imagine waiting FOUR YEARS to do it!

My mom is a major pick-me, too. Never stood up for me or defended me against my abusive dad. Nowadays, she pretends it never happened. She doesn't even stand up for himself. My dad has been financially abusive to her for decades and has openly cheated on her. He also picks on her daily and treats her like she's stupid (she acts stupid, but still). She pretends everything is fine. She has absolutely no pride or dignity whatsoever. I'm glad my parents don't approve of me. I literally don't approve…

I was talking with a man I recently met and I (sort of) jokingly said, "I'd like to spend more quality time with women, rather than going to these co-ed gatherings and getting distracted by men." He said, "You mean, getting distracted by one man?" Insinuating that he is the only one I am talking to/interested in. Um. Not exactly. LOL.

I remember this post! And the guy was so dense, he didn't even notice she was upset about the arrangement until he asked her to learn how to make sushi for them. She said, "If I learn to make sushi, then I'll never get a real date again." So sad.

I’m a big Taylor Swift fan and this reminds me of one of her lyrics: “Back then, I swore I was gonna marry him someday, but I realized some bigger dreams of mine.”
