That's good. Try to stay in that place. Really, this should all be about equality and treating everyone the same regardless of any defining characteristics.

Do you understand that men's rights and women's rights are not mutually exclusive and rarely work in opposition? This is not rocket science. We aren't at war.
/r/MensRights02/08/14 10:46 PM

No, that wasn't the true Scotsman fallacy. Let me put it this way and I think you'll agree... Women's rights activists and men's rights activists are not necessarily in opposition. It just so happens that there is no "Women's Rights Movement" that has reached the majority so they are given the label "feminists." This label is also applied to man haters and other people that make the movement look ridiculous. I agree with you it is not a good term to endorse and I'm glad that the MRA aren't calle…

I am saying that a real feminist has no need to butt heads with a MRA because their goals and ideals are not necessarily in conflict. You seem to be referring to the caricature feminism has become while I am referring to striving to correct the inequalities that effect women... Just like we are striving to correct the inequalities that effect men. Do you see how everyone can have equality and there doesn't need to be opposition?
/r/MensRights02/08/14 09:43 PM

Pretty tired of the "feminists suck!!!!" posts. Let's talk about the issues rather than our supposed opposition... who aren't really opposition at all because there is no reason you couldn't be a feminist and a MRA. For both sexes there are inequalities that need to be addressed.

I can confirm this personally as I was almost sucked into it. I was hit hard by the depression (lost everything... two foreclosures, car repossessed, two failed businesses, homeless, divorce, custody... everything) and went through a period where I saw the world through the lens where "the system" had screwed me. I saw conspiracy where there was none. It wasn't until I overcame the disappointment and depression, and got back to working toward my goals, that I was able to see the world clearly ag…

Yes, I get very, very tired of fighting. I am in a very similar situation as you (mother has found new boyfriend, seems to be trying to push me out of the picture while my daughter is young). She can afford a lawyer, I cannot. Four times now, my ex has taken away my time with my daughter. I haven't seen her since Thanksgiving. Around Christmas I became so depressed and discouraged by this situation that I made a suicide attempt figuring that there was nothing I could really do about it, the laws…

Well, I'm just playing devil's advocate now but... Some might say that legislators controlling women's bodies and ability to abort a fetus that endangers their lives is a pretty serious issue comparable to the severity of the things you mentioned. Again, playing devil's advocate and just making the point that women have it bad in some ways and men have it bad in some ways. It doesn't need to be an all or nothing competition for who has it worse — we can all get fair and equal treatment... probab…

"RAAAR I HATE FEMINISM AND WOMEN" or "We have it worse than women and here's why" rather than you know, actual mens rights activism, tells the tale well enough. There are probably some people here who think men have it worse than women but I don't think it is the majority. I think the majority of men's rights activists know that there are a few areas where there is bias against men and are seeking to get them resolved because men (and, often, their children) are suffering.

There are many instances of inequality in the world today. I don't think anyone here is claiming that only men's rights issues are in need of reform. For example, I have always been a very outspoken supporter of gay rights in this country and opposed to the war on drugs because of how it disproportionately effects young african american men. I'm neither gay or black. There are definitely issues here that need to be addressed for men, as well. I don't know why you think there would be a large gro…

What from the discussion you've had so far with us do you consider shameful? I've already taken the time to point out a very obvious issue of bias against men and then your reply is to say that it's just me dealing with it when that's not the case at all. Everyone has been very polite with you considering you are trolling. We've even tried to be informative. Have you read the sidebar information yet?
/r/MensRights18/04/13 10:27 PM
3

Yes, there are many, many, many men dealing with this issue. It's really not unlikely at all. Why don't you make a new post asking how many men have been treated unfairly by the system with child visitation and parental rights issues? You might learn something if you stop arguing against things you obviously know nothing about. How old are you anyway?
/r/MensRights18/04/13 10:17 PM
2

You might understand some of the ferver if you were to ever be seriously effected by a bias issue because of your gender, such as having your time with your child taken from you, and then have to deal with people who don't think there is an issue at all because of your gender. (stares at you)
/r/MensRights18/04/13 10:06 PM

In the meantime, don't you think this is a legitimate men's rights issue? Should black people and women have just waited for the old judges to die off and a younger generation to take their place and hopefully interpret things fairly so everyone is treated equally?

I took this out of the sidebar for you. Here is some legislation that could use fixing: http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRightsMeta/comments/tnwn8/faq_suggestion_antimale_legislation_roundup/ No fear of discourse, I think most people just don't want to deal with a troll pretending to be curious but obviously has an agenda. I think if you want discourse you should just state yourself plainly like this: "I haven't spent much time researching into men's rights at all (I don't feel like reading the sideb…

Yes, non married couples. At least, that's my situation. Trust me, it's not nonsense. I'm going to ignore the combativeness of your response. Even with married couples though, you'd be hard pressed to find too many examples of the father being awarded custody unless the mom royally screws up. If your goal is to prove that there are no areas that are biased against men and in need of correction, and not genuine curiosity, you have already failed.

One area where men have it worse than women in the U.S. is with parental rights. In some states, such as my state of South Carolina, the woman is automatically given full custody of the child following a break up. The courts are notorious for generally believing any accusation the mother makes about the father but also not believing any accusations the father may make toward the mother. This is one aspect of men's rights. This is the one I am interested in, I know others are here for other reaso…

It's a pretty cool trick in that it provides all the nutrients a baby needs to stay alive and even thrive in the absence of breast milk. I definitely wasn't saying it was preferable to breast milk. No one is setting any bars, I was just pointing out that father's can care for their babies too, even in the complete absence of a mother.

Yeah, unfortunately men are sometimes viewed the way they are portrayed in family sitcoms -- bumbling, immature, selfish, etc. I'm glad to hear you don't think of us that way. :)

/r/MensRights18/04/13 02:30 PM

I don't know if it's really so much a lack of trust. Men are often trusted enough to be left alone with babies. But, the mom is considered the "real" parent because she has been endowed with gifts men weren't (such as sensitivity? attentiveness? awareness? empathy?).

How does pointing out false rape accusations make this group about hate? I do not have my head up my ass — I see a movement toward defending men against inequalities that negatively impact their lives. Men are falsely accused of rape and their lives are often destroyed by it. Men are often denied equal rights as parents. Men are often the victims of spousal abuse but these crimes generally go unpunished. These are real issues that negatively effect the lives of thousands of men. These are the is…

/r/MensRights06/04/12 02:08 AM

I don't know if we can compare the two wrongs and say, "B is a greater offense than A so A is justified." Violence toward anyone is clearly wrong. To say it is ever justified is just giving her brand of ignorance paint to smear us with (obviously). I think the troll just wants to miss the point -- that the men's rights movement does have a legitimate basis. I know many men personally who have been hit by their wives (but did not hit back). the "reasoning" is if they report it and the accused is found innocent even when guilty, then the innocent accuser could face unjust jail time. In this case she admitted to lying. It may be a slippery slope but this case is different than the accused being found innocent and sending the accuser to jail for it.

I agree about needing more honesty and free speech but I disagree that pointing out inequality is "being offended" or "even more sensitivity." My original post on this thread was factually incorrect and emotionally motivated, in hindsight. I'm not offended by the content of the article so much as the double standard that allows it.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 07:46 PM

I agree about women generally being more empathic after doing some research but a 90% vs. 10% difference isn't true here (unless you have some sources I'm unaware of). I'm not upset by people pointing out differences or because I'm shooting for political correctness... I'm upset by the double standard. If a man were to try to publish an article that pointed out even somewhat derogatory differences between men and women (but favoring men) and then claimed he was "celebrating differences" he would…

I just did some research and it turns out you are right. I was not aware of that research. Upvotes. Please note that I was never arguing that men and women are the same or that stereotypes are always false.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 06:07 PM
3

Agreed. In particular... we need to start treating fathers as equal parents by giving them equal rights to their child. That's my main reason for subscribing to this subreddit. I've had a bad experience there. I've never had it happen to me but too many of my male friends have been victims of domestic violence with absolutely no consequence for the woman involved. We need to get rid of the double standards before we can say men and women are equal.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 05:49 PM

This woman is celebrating, not denigrating, her caricature of you as a man. Remember... you don't have to apologize for being a man... as long as you use those qualities for good.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 05:37 PM
2

My point is... I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any definitive proof that men are, even on average, less empathetic making it a false stereotype that this woman is promoting. EDIT: I was wrong.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 05:26 PM
2

Agree to disagree, I guess. My understanding is that they've only found that testosterone inhibits empathy — and women have testosterone too.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 04:20 PM

That part was good, agreed.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 03:46 PM

Saying that men are less creative and less empathetic is not only enforcing stereotypes, it's untrue. In my opinion, we women should celebrate, not denigrate, the following masculine qualities in our mates: Less empathetic... Less creative... That's like me writing an article that says, "I want to celebrate, not denigrate, women for being less assertive and less intelligent..." and expecting women to say, "Oh, that's so nice this man is celebrating our differences."
/r/MensRights28/03/12 03:45 PM
7

I got this from it... "I'm trying to speak positively about men but can't stop criticizing them."
/r/MensRights28/03/12 02:09 PM
10

This article was pretty condescending and stereotype enforcing. Men are less empathetic and creative? Since when? EDIT: Statistically speaking, women are more empathetic.
/r/MensRights28/03/12 01:46 PM
